SOME people might like to see some BASEBALL memorabilia
Posted By: mr. moses
Mostly paper for now..... I know it takes a lot of work for people to access and scan their stuff....GIVE a little/take a little"-) I offer a bit with the hope that others might share. Even more than the attacks this stuff gets my blood pressure up. Presented in no particular order and without grouping by theme/rarity/or anything else other than they were close at hand. If I can help anyone in any way I'll be happy to try........... I have a fair amount of material and if the thread is well received I will post more.... well maybe. |

The Lorillard and the OJ) but the nomenclature changes as the people collecting this stuff change. The composites are IMHO some of the finest trade cards extant "all around" despite their lack of color and embellishment (Nation League Chew comes to mind as well as the Tobin series). I'd love to see a scan of the ones I'm missing in the OJ and REALLY love to see if anyone has the BLACK & WHITE Tobins........ |

I agree that the Lorillards are trade cards, but they are as close to a baseball card as a trade card could be. Today, the terms are almost interchangeable. |

Here are a couple of Ty Cobb items. The trophy is from 1913, W.B. Jarvis, Sporting goods company that Cobb was part owner. Located on Woodward in Detroit Mi. and Lansing Mi. These Trophies were given to High Schools for different sporting events. Ty Cobb with his off the field hat on the front. I have never seen another, if someone has let me know. The other is a Ty Cobb Brand straw hat. |

and I'll be looking for one for myself"-). Here's one that goes against the forum rules but I couldn't resist one last "illegal" post as isn't the EVOLUTION important to our overall understanding as well as the cards......? I've never seen an earlier reference to "collecting the cards" type of thing AND it's ON such a card (actually there are 2 cards in the set with such a reference but I can only put my hands on one right now - other says "Got any stamp cards mister?"). Both from a fairly common Duke insert set N85-Postage Stamps that capitalized on a newly emerging stamp collecting hobby. |

Jay- that's a fabulous postcard as it illustrates how popular the tobacco cards were among the kids of the day; and likewise, how they depended on the adults to give them the cards when they opened the packs. Thanks for sharing that! |

So the postcard which is more generic and only suggests a tobacco baseball card without actually saying what kind of card is being referenced; is more PC than an actual card that IS a non-sport card but by inference could be talking about a "Duke" issue such as the Presidential Heads series which IS a baseball card.......same as it could be talking about the stamp cards (or other issues). I guess that's why I rode the special bus and got extra time on tests..... |

The lack of posting is no indication of lack of interest. far from it. I have an office filled with stuff...getting the time to scan, and also how should I scan odd ball items. Some I can't. I have a black marble award/trophy given to Connie Mack after his 29 and 30 world series win. It used to sit on his desk. Has a small clock attached to it. and two gold elephants. And I have no camera that I can hook up to my computer. Sterling award given to Gehrig, silver award given to Foxx. Cleats with Foxx's name engraved on them etc. etc. If I knew how to put them on here I would. But I do like seeing other peoples things. |

things are not always what they seem I guess. I assume that means only 28 people that posted? laughing because no interest? honestly have no idea what you mean. Hope you're not just breaking my balls. My wife invented sarcasm and i'm oblivious to it. Is there a place for statistics of who or how many are logged on at any given time? |
