Default TPGs segregating color backgrounds for e98s and others

I sure wish TPGs would have thought to have segregated their labels according to color backgrounds for e98s much like they finally did for T206 backs!

I'm really wanting to know which e98s are harder in which colors. I used to have a mixed e98 set a couple years ago and was just happy to get any color to fill the void. However, looking at REA's current e98 segregated sets, it dawned on me that none of these companies thought to do that with caramel cards either.

So......for example's sake, if I'm trying to get all 4 color backgrounds of an e98 Mathewson, what is the ranking order from easiest to hardest? I had a blue background which I personally believe to be the easiest, but after that???

Thoughts?

That would be awesome

I'm not sure if they do it.

On some flips I see: 1910 E98 Set of 30
On others: 1910 E98 - Color

I'm also waiting for PSA to start differing with E92 Crofts Candy colors too.

~Owen

Edit: I'm not sure about the color difficulty on E98's, but if I had to, I would say from easiest to rarest:

Red
Green
Orange
Blue

Had they chosen to put the colors right on the flips from the beginning we'd have an idea of the rarity of each color for each player.

Wouldn't be hard for them to change policies. They've done some with T206, for instance-

Agreed! I guess I figured after the Black Swamp Find, this would have brought more attention. Oh well.

Default When they do that ...

They could also add back information for T205's and T207's.

Default E98 swamp thing net 54 fever syndrome

Back in the distant collecting day, most collectors didn't think of the set in terms of background colors, so when the TPG's began to make their inroads, it wasn't even thought of or considered...collector's for the most part were just glad to get an example of each card on the checklist. It wasn't until some advanced collectors here on Net54 began showing/telling us about their specific color sets and master color sets did it start to become part of our general collecting consciousness. Then the Black Swamp find (wasn't that an incredible discovery!) made it so we just could no longer ignore the colors anymore. Like you mentioned, T206 cards didn't always have brand/series designation on the flips. It is just another example of the progression of our hobby to more minute aspects and niches, like printing errors, etc. If the TPG's still don't include that info (I don't pay too much attention to the grading game), it certainly reveals that they are still sluggishly behind in responding to the pulse of the hobby.

Default Link-like

Talk about not having a pulse (technologically speaking), I will not provide a link to this informative thread with color input from advanced collectors, but instead indicate the date (1/2/2014) and the original thread poster (Voodoochild).

No...it wouldn't...then we just have to deal with sellers/AH's overinflating the rarity of certain colors since only 1 has been labeled as such so far!

Nothing special but picked up these commons from Sterling. I've been after a nice looking Bates card for awhile. And have been stuck on green background cards lately.

Hi Brian,

Here is a link to the post you are referring to http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=181035

And for good measure, a few random E98s.

PSA has done this for the E98 Anonymous set. I've noticed, for example, a plethora of E98 Wagners have been graded ever since the Black Swamp Find, but the overwhelming majority of them, I believe, feature the red or green backgrounds. My orange E98 Wagner is only a 2.5, but, to date, it is also the only one PSA has graded. My disclaimer is that I haven't checked out PSA's pop report for a while. Something tells me, however, after reading your complaint, that it's not.
