Just a side note. I'd really like see this develope as the best looking cards, not just a bunch of nice cards of HOfers. Pretty much everyone and his brother knows what the key cards from the major sets looks like and many look very good, but I want people to be able to see cards other than what you normally see all the time auction catalogues and price books. I want to see the BEST looking cards, no matter who is on them. Not a bunch of nice cards with recognizable names on them. |

I take it you have a fetish for masked men wearing leather gloves that like to play with a bat and balls :p |

In the spirit of providing some off the beaten track alternatives (somewhat like the guy who election after election keeps running for office, even though he doesn't have a shot in hell of winning): |

Take the FBH Kelly. It is a gorgeous card, but part of it's gorgeousness is that it's Kelly--strikingly handsome, a fine (but hardly the greatest!) player of his time, loved by absolutely everyone, who died because he fell asleep in the snow in an alchoholic stupor. |

I am not asking people to pick cards from a vacuum. What am doing is asking them to look beyond the HOFers and key cards to sets. Yes, some of those cards are gorgeous, but there are as many or more cards of common players that look as good or better. |

Here are 4 of the 5 cards I nominated for consideration in the Baseball Card HOF--1910 Obak of Murphy, Los Angeles, T206 of Liefield, pitching, W503 of Heinie Groh, and 1933 Goudey of Paul Richards. The missing one is the 1911 Zeenut of Buck Weaver, but you probably can check out the one that Leon recently sold on ebay. |
