One I just received......very nice...in response to the '52 Topps thread....

leon, i am only a reader of the site but you must be a complete moron especially when you talk like prewar is the only baseball collectible out there, you must be some kinda real complete human being to tell someone where to go to get answers for his questions . that burns me to think you would speak like that. this site is nice but why do you and you wingnut collector buddies think this site is it. i collect over a period of 60 years of baseball history. why not try being nice to people instead of sounding so arrogant. my god they are only baseball cards. i am glad i don't treat people like you do. maybe you could spend some time in iraq , maybe you would fit better in with the lowlife insurgents. get a grip man . i am glad ted z. is nothing like you since i know him personally. prewar is just that aperiod in time. get over it.

I told ya'll I was a meanie (moderator dude)

Wingnuts = Yeah! Thats what I can afford. Lets see - the variations are endless. Gotta go, got a line on some vintage big brass nuts!

Edited to add:

I might be in the market for some nice soft fuzzy sleeves real soon too.

sorry bozo, i wont leave it , i know all 35to50 prewar collectors out
there have nothing better to do. thats why scd (sports collectors digest)
spelled out for you won't print a pre 70's book only because there are only like 35-50 collectors . what would they do with all the leftover
copies. there are probably more t206 honus's than you prewar dudes. just
don't act like you guys are it. i bet your fat as pig too. what kinda
name is leon. is it a gay name. oh and its your site. you must have
it all then, i am sure glad i am not like you, hell the world would not exist.

Leon, I'm sad you had to receive these emails, but not surprised, since civility is woefully lacking in this era.

I want to thank you for your great sense of balance in trying to maintain the purpose of this forum, while still permitting an occasional straying into other areas

You've been very kind to me when I "lose focus" a bit.

I know I speak for all the other members of VBC, in saying how much we appreciate your hard work and cordiallity.

Thanks,

Bob S

To the sender of the email: What is wrong with having a website that has a particular focus? Do you yell at the man at the vegetable stand because you can't buy a good steak from him? Leon is not arrogant, he runs the site for nothing with incredible patience and tolerance, and he pointed out there are other forums to discuss modern cards. This one focuses on vintage cards only. Seems reasonable to me.

Wow! That was entertaining! I thought I only got mail from the second monkey on the Darwin chart!

Dude, ever hear of a capital letter?

Leon, gotta love hate mail in crayon!

He should know that the only things we talk about on this forum are: Barry Bonds, Alan Rosen and pre-war baseball cards.

Wingnut D.J

P.S Board, can we soon start talking about hummels?

Leon--

Yours is a thankless job and this clown just points that up. I think you treated him respectfully and he has no reason to be offended. I likewise enjoy Topps but respect the fact that this board derives its speciality and value from its focus on pre-war cards. Mark

And by the way, his suggesting you spend some time in Iraq with the insurgents is a nice touch. I guess it is fair to say that anyone who directs a chatboard towards vintage baseball cards is probably a suicide bomber in his spare time. What a complete nitwit you are, whatever rock you crawled out from under.

WOW - I think someone's got some starch in his BVDs and is taking it out on our fearless leader.

I think Barry hit the nail on the head (something the clueless emailer could use, by the way) in his first post.

DJ - we could possibly start talking about Hummels here. They began in 1935, not 1952, so they qualify as prewar!

It must be spring break and the youngsters don't have anything to do but put together poorly written emails attacking people. Actually, thats not at all fair to the many fine youngsters out there, so I take it back.

The emails are too funny. Thankfully, it takes all to make the world go around. Thanks for sharing Leon.

i've said it many times before and will say it many times again....thanks!!!....for providing us a place to discuss the stuff we love.

personally, my collection is not just prewar, but the rules are clear...very clear.

i assume this person has issues with stop signs too.

regarding this issue; leon, i thought you handled it like a gentleman....as always.

If you don't like what we are about, move on and find a site more to your liking. It is nice to get the focus back that had been lost for a while.

Personal attacks against someone is the last resort for a very simple mind...pay that person no nevermind Leon. I personally enjoy our board the way it is and would love to keep it like it is for a long time to come. There are many other sites that deal with other aspects of card collecting for that person to peruse...let us hope that he finds one where his interests lie (i.e. fatgaywingnutinsurgent.org).

...an associate of mine and I went to get some ice cream at the local Ben & Jerry's at Grand Central Terminal during a mid-afternoon break. The woman in front of us got into a fight with the girl scooping ice cream because the girl was scooping more from the sides of the bin than the middle of the bin. When the girl said that she was just trying to get more chocolate chips in her ice cream scoop, the woman got very nasty and snapped at her, "You let me worry about how many chips I get!" and then under her breath, "Tryin' to tell me how many chips I wan't...."

Everyone in the shop was mortified for the ice cream girl. My associate turned to me and said, "Imagine what it would be like to be married to that woman."

So, Leon, I share this story with you because there are a lot of really awful people out there that once in awhile come into our world and share some of their night terrors with us. It is never pleasant hearing from them, but at least you do not have to live with them.

I wish that people like that would post their nasty comments on the Board so we could all have a shot at responding to them.

My buddies and I used to go out in the 70's and party all night long. The night was not complete until we were crying from a good laugh. His post wasn't quite enough to make me cry ( prolly because I'm minus the drugs and beer now) but its good enough for the good laugh of the day.
Leon a fat pig huh? From talking to Leon briefly, having never met, I believe him to be quite an athlete and a ringer hitting homerun. Maybe he's built like the Babe?

It saddens me to read an email that chastises Leon for his actions on this board. Leon, you are a good guy, friendly, and kind. It is this era of email and computers that people have lost civility, as a previous poster said.
I doubt this individual who wrote to you would ever have the nerve to say those things to your face.

A simple visit to the FAQ would see that the focus of this board is mainly pre-war, so why the surprise that we don't talk about the '52 Topps set?
Leon, you do a great job, as the other Mods, maintaining this board. I personally have learned so much just be reading various threads. Please don't get discouraged by a random email.

Now, who here thinks our anonymous emailer was really Mr. Mint, in a veiled attempt to lash back at all of us "wingnuts" on this board?! Joking, of course.

Leon,

Darn dude, what'd you do to make this person so happy?

I didn't know that you are gay... but that's ok, you're a great guy. With such a manly man name (and all) I never would have figured that one out.

I'd just like to say "Topp" of the day to you and I hope you're laughing your ass off as much as the rest of us. I do like comic relief... I like the post about getting hate mail written in crayon... that was good and pretty much to the point.

Hey, what the heck does this have to do with vintage baseball cards anyway? Do you think you should lock the thread down? Do we need to email Brian and have him take the appropriate action? Please don't shut this one down. Maybe the writer of the emails will write another one, hopefully he'll be able to laugh with the rest of us and say "what the hey" and let it rest.

as far as the e-mailer, i had actually thought about going

bucks.

The term "wingnut" is not one used by anyone under 50. My dad used to use the term every now and then, it was a nice way of saying "jerk" or "dork". I totally agree with Bob S.'s comment about the lack of civility that exists in society today.
I also wish only 35-50 people here collected pre-war cards, it would make my collection a lot larger and card buying a great deal more economical...

Will trade for any great Pre-war Topps cards (Includes photo of my Wagner card(yours can be put on for a small fee) and our leader Saddam's - Topps Desert Storm card).

Continue on Leon and there is nothing wrong with being it...

I don't understand why he is so upset.I've seen Leon deal with other O/T threads, and is to the point, even says "nothing personal" ! I think he was just sore to see a lock next to his first precious thread.I got a spank for being a newbie, but I learned, and got over it.Kinda reminds me of Adam Moraine.Nice one Steve !!!

I almost hate to throw out some stuff as the "thank you's" inevitably happen...and while appreciated they really, really aren't necessary (nor even really wanted). Again, thanks for the kind words though. Actually the praise needs to go to John Spencer and Mike Williams of the old FullCount board. They were the originators. Elliot found us another shell to live in and Bill carried the torch well until the new (and all encompassing) regime was in place. Rest assured this will continued to be a focused Pre-WWII baseball card chatboard. Other cards are cool too, there is nothing wrong with them, and there are many other fine sites to talk about them...especially my good friends at Beckett have a good chatboard.....(btw, I am almost completely bald too ...so that with my fat tummy makes for a perfect collector)....best regards

Many of us that frequent this board have collecting interests that extend beyond the realms of pre-war and baseball. I have an equal passion for vintage football. Leon is fairly generous about OT for regular contributors. The point is this is were we come to discuss pre-war baseball.

When he referenced everyone as "Wingnuts," he may have been referring to us as Detroit Red Wing fans. Anyone from Michigan (myself included) knows that it is actully popular to be a Wingnut.

As far as the name Leon being gay is concerned, I do not see the link and his statement loses credibility with me. However, if he would have said that the name Luckey was gay?:>)

Everyone, please be carefull when criticing the poor guys English, he could be French Canadian:>)
