Default FS: 1909 Decatur Commodores Memorabilia Collection from the HISTORIC “Marathon Game"

The Longest Completed Professional Baseball Game in History that stood for 57 Years!

On June 1, 1909 the Decatur Commodores of the Class B Indiana-Iowa-Illinois League (IIIL) defeated the Bloomington Bloomers in a 26 Inning baseball contest. The game was famously known as “The Marathon Game” and was recognized by Cooperstown in their museum!! For 57 years, this record stood!

Offered is a rare collection of baseball relics that originates from the family of Otto Burns, who was the starting pitcher that made professional baseball history on June 1, 1909, pitching all 26 Innings for the winning Decatur Commodores!

Included in this collection are starting pitcher Otto Burns Game-Worn Fielding Glove, Spikes, and Socks from this HISTORIC GAME! Also included is Otto's personally owned Original 1909 Decatur Commodores Team Photo, Otto's PERSONAL baseball traveling suitcase with his initials "OAB", ca. 1907-08 Baseball Portrait of young Otto Burns, and lastly a Game Program from August 16, 1939 celebrating "Burns-Fisher Night", commemorating the Longest Completed Game in Organized Baseball. What a remarkable assembly of historic vintage dead-ball era baseball relics that should be in Cooperstown!

There is a picture of Otto from 1909 in the 1939 program (see attached) that shows the exact Otto exact Glove, Socks and Spikes that Otto wore that season. This collection of historical relics would be an amazing addition to anyone's vintage, dead-ball or just baseball collection. Letter of Provenance from the family of Otto will be included.

Otto was featured in the 1912 E270 Colgan's Chip Set! (not included)

Below is a link to a fantastic article written by the Society of Baseball Research (SABR) in 2011 recalling the historical "Marathon Game".

Price is $3,495 or best offer. Please PM any questions!
