Default EBAY JULY 1st UPDATE: Internet Sales Tax Now Applies to More States

UPDATE: Internet Sales Tax Now Applies to More States

There are a number of new states where eBay will be collecting sales tax on applicable transactions beginning July 1, 2019. For those states that we are collecting tax, you do not need to take any action. There are no extra charges or fees for this service. Prior to these dates, please continue to collect and remit tax in these states and comply with any other applicable requirements they impose.

There are no opt-outs for selling items to the states that we are collecting tax for, or out of eBay automatically collecting sales tax for applicable orders.

Additional states will likely be added. Stay informed on the Help pages.

If you are exempt from paying sales tax on your eBay purchases, visit to learn more about our buyer exemption program for tax-exempt buyers (e.g. charitable entities, resellers etc.).

wonder how long before ebay figures a way to pass administration cost of collecting taxes ,to the sellers

Just FYI: A few days ago I had received a message concerning a Ebay sale--I was asked if I had a shop. I responded no not at this time, but if wanted to pickup to save postage I would be open. He coded a phone number which I called. Come to find out he wanted to go around Ebay on a 2500.00 card. I noticed he was in New York and made a offer to buy the card through Paypal to avoid NY 8+ percent sales tax----best not I replied!

Next day I receive a nasty gram message from Ebay explaining its against Ebay policy sell outside Ebay, suspension possibilities etc.

I guess Ebay are reviewing emails or the other party was possibly working for Ebay?
