Default RIP Eddie Van Halen

Lost the battle with cancer and passed at age 65. I was in Junior High when songs from "Van Halen" hit the FM stations... You Really Got Me, Runnin with the Devil, Eruption, Jamie's Cryin. Following albums had hits like Beautiful Girls, Happy Trails, And the Cradle Will Rock, Jump. Even though I was more of a Jimmy Page/Pete Townshend/Richie Blackmore fan, Eddie could play hard rock guitar riffs with the best of them.

I had no idea he was battling cancer. One of the great rock guitar players, and he made it look so effortless. He will be missed.

I just remember driving around on a Saturday night with my friend Dave looking for something to do, aged 16-17, blasting Van Halen. Part of the soundtrack of my high school years. I drove home today on some of the same roads blasting VH and crying. The last notes of Beautiful Girls played just as I pulled into my driveway, which seemed like an appropriate tribute to the soul of the party band of my youth.

Now, I'm a seaside sittin', just a smokin' and a drinkin';
I'm ringside, on top of the world.
I got a drink in my hand; I got my toes in the sand.
All I need is a beautiful girl.

RIP Eddie.

Was listening to all the VH on my iPhone music today. Remembering how I would crank up the 200 watt amp in my camaro when the song "Ain't Talkin Bout Love" came on.

On a related note Johnny Nash also died. He of the "I Can See Clearly Now" and "Stir It Up" two more songs on the iPhone...
