1920 Chillicothe postcard with Cal Hubbard and possibly John Levi - Hubbard is second from right in the middle row...he is the only man enshrined in both the NFL hall of fame and the MLB hall of fame. I believe Levi is third from left in the back row...he was a native american that later went to fame at Haskell Institute and threatened many of Jim Thorpe's records. |

Thanks Jason...I love the set. I don't build sets, because I have no interest in commons, but if I were to set out to build a set, I would seriously have to take this set into consideration. Thanks again. |

These were a gift from a couple whom I have just finished remodeling their house. He is a epremera (spelling?) dealer of sorts and had had these around his house for a long time. Now, I need to find some old stuff to give to them! |

thanks Craig. I was told the runner may be Radbourn. The thinking is the visiting teams to Boston had their studio shots done when they played the Beaneaters?
I thought the same thing Joe. A collecting friend emailed me and said he thought he had read in a Mastro catalog a while back that this particular shot was Radbourn and some of these Old Judge photos were taken by a Boston studio. They wanted an opposing team for shots like this and they picked a Beaneater? |

Keith, do you have reason to believe this photo was taken in Boston? The 1887 Chicago & Detroits have the same back drop but I've yet to conclude which studio took those 1887 shots (w stadium back drop - first issued in 1887 as long numbered OJs). Some sources such as Lew Lipset suggest all the 1887 Old Judges were taken by Joseph Hall of Brooklyn except for the 1887 Script cards which are Joseph Wood of NY. I'm convinced Joseph Hall took the Brooklyn photos (outdoor photos), but not as convinced about the other teams (8 National League teams). Do you have any supporting evidence to suggest someone other than Joseph Hall took the 1887 Chicago & Detroit photos? |
