Default Roger Maris Autographed Book

My friend bought a book at a rummage sale and it appears to be an autographed first edition by Roger Maris. First question of course is the autograph authentic? If so, what do you think the book might be worth? Sorry that the photos appear sideways.

Default Maris Signed Book

Looks very similar to one that I have. I would say the value is in the $200 range.

Thanks Joe. So that’s for a signed copy? My friend is in the Kansas City area so that makes sense.

Thanks guys. Is the book itself worth more because it's a first edition?

Quick answer to your question is yes, but not necessarily by a lot. The dust jacket is important to book collector. There was at least one other printing.
A bookseller online has one signed by Maris with a nice jacket for 1250, but has had it quite awhile. The value is in the Maris autograph in this case. The book is not particularly rare, but nice.
It basically follows up a nice earlier series published by Putnam, which covered the original teams. I believe the Mack biography is also considered to be the Athletics in that series. It is a nice set and most went thru several printings with updates etc.

So do you agree that it's probably around a $200 item?

Sorry, I don’t collect autographs. That said, I would have assumed a little more but that would just be guess, I have no idea of real value. Others on here are certainly much more qualified to give an opinion. To me, I would rather have a Maris autograph in a book than a cut or index card, but that is just me.

$400 would be a likely value if authenticated which would cost $100 or so. As is, probably $300 to a Maris collector who recognizes the autograph is authentic IMO.
