Default Do Not Ignore Your Local Postcard Shows

Postcard dealers do know that some baseball postcards are valuable, but for the most part they do not have a clue what they're selling. I picked up a lot of great stuff at the Omaha Postcard and Paper show today...including a 1913 Superior minor league postcard with Dazzy Vance. Picked up a bunch of boxing/golf/football postcards out of dealer's bargain boxes as well.

Default Cool

Nice postcard pickup...it helps how easily Dazzy can be spotted in a crowd.

Great pick-up. I bet I have looked thru a half a million post cards in last 5 years at shops, flea markets, ect and have found exactly one sports related one.

Nice pick up. I have scouted PC bins numerous times but have not had the same luck.

Ditto with Jeff and others--I have yet to make a significant find at a local postcard show. However, I did find this, and a few others at the National. Thanks again, JJ.

Cheers,
Mike

This Omaha show is very small...probably only 15 dealers...nearly every one of them has a topical section which includes sports...almost all of them included baseball. And I've found postcard dealers much more willing to deal than card dealers. I'll admit this is my best score in 5 years of attending this show, but persistence pays off. All of the cards below were purchased for less than $4 each..and in some cases were found in the 50 cent box.

Default Vance PC

Nice grab on the Vance postcard. I am scared to know what you paid for your example...I just bought mine from Phil Garry and am guessing that I paid several times more than you just did!

Great pick-up!

Default Postcard Shows

As a former color postcard collector my son and I used to hit the paper and postcard shows here in Sacramento. There is one dealer who has BB postcards but...for some reason he thinks they are golden so no sales from us.

I used to have great luck at the show in L.A. but too many collectors have started going there. The baseball stuff I find there now costs more than on Ebay.

Sealmark: betcha I know who that is...

I think the prices have gone up at PC shows as well...most know what they have...but I go anyways because sometimes you will get that nice old couple with a great group including bb stuff and it will be mixed in there and you can find some gems.

A few years ago I passed on a nice 31-32 Exhibit Card of Babe Ruth in suit and tie pose that was going for way below book...but I passed on it as I wasn't collecting those sort of things back then... oh well....

HA _ You may have to thank me a little Ive been to the last 3 PC shows in Omaha and asking for Baseball and or sports PC. So I don't/can't go to this last one and you have some nice hits.

Nice finds, always like to see parts for your collection. - John

I've been to 3 out of the last 4 so we probably ran into one another. You'd think those dealers would bring more baseball since we're both asking...most of them tell me they have lots more, but didn't bring them.

Great pick-ups! Love the Dempsey's, and the Seattle Coliseum image (s), with one of my favorite minor league hockey squads, the Seattle T-Birds. Lots of brawls in the WHL, great action.

I'll have to start looking for local PC shows.
