Default calculating auction payment question

Posted By: Dan Lundrigan

My question is this,is it common practice for auctioneers to figure in the shipping cost with the final auction price before adding the buyers premium and sales tax?
My other question when I view the item I won online it says 1 bid "my opening bid" but I am being charged for my max bid amount?Since it was an absentee bid I placed, could bids have been placed in person at the auction that I do not know about therefore driving up my final price? How does one know the auctioneer doesn`t just bill you for your max bid even if there were no bids placed in person? This is the first time I placed an absentee bid so I have a few questions about how it all works.

Just to add: It is not a lot of money I am talking about and it does not involve any members here.Mostly general questions I have.

Leon sorry if my post is a bit too o/t please lock it or delete.

Default calculating auction payment question

An auctioneer, or more precisely auction software, is only supposed to execute a ceiling bid as necessary. If no real bidder pushes you to your maximum bid, then you should win a lot for less than that amount. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way as some bids are illegally shilled up.

As far as postage is concerned, it is usually an estimate of what it will cost to ship your lots. Sometimes it may be a little more than that.
