Default Landed a white whale

I once told my friend that the card below was the baseball card I wanted most for any of my projects. He responded with a couple of tough Yaz cards. I said fine, the most of any non-Yaz baseball card. 4 HOFers on one card. Mays and the Hammer. 1964 Venz, a set I collect. I thought I would never afford one, especially in better-than-poor condition. And then this happened:

Seriously a hobby high!

This card came as part of a lot of 9 which was loaded with stars: 3 more HOFers, a couple of MVPs, numerous all stars, and a Red Sox common to top it off. Of the 9, I decided to keep 8 and sub 7 to PSA for my Venz registries. Here are the others I deemed sub-worthy:

Venz version of the 2nd year card and first solo Topps card of the HOFer later known as "Pops." I love this card, despite the tape stains.

Boyer was an MVP and, as we know, Bunning is in the HOF. Pascual was no slouch either

Pinson was another All Star. Geiger wasn't, but he was a member of my beloved Sox.

Weird to see Eddie Money in a Tigers uni, but he's still a HOFer (on the cheap). Pairs nicely with the 64 Venz Mathews I recently picked up.

The last 2 cards in the lot were 64's: a WS Game 4 (feat. Frank Howard) and a Clay Dalrymple. I'll keep the Howard, but it has a torn corner, so I don't want it in my registry. The Dalrymple will go on eBay unless somebody here wants to buy/trade.

Congrats on the find! Right now I'm saving some money for the '68 VZ Aaron. That's my must get right now. I'm hoping I'll have the dough soon.

Default Killebrew 1968 Venezuelan Topps #220 PSA 8

I have a 1968 Venezuelan Harmon Killebrew #220 PSA 8 coming back from PSA. I am hoping I can get some value help on this. Its a pop 1 and next highest is a PSA 5. I don't see many 8's on the market. I have a few people interested now so any help would be nice.

Thanks

DB, you never disappoint!

I've got a read on my last Braves VZ card and I should be able to get it soon. As soon as I get it, I'll post the entire run.

Mr. McNally is the newest addition to my 1967 MLB set. Now have 93.

If anyone is interested, I have 30+ duplicates from this set available for trade for players I need, (including dupes of several Hall Of Famers: Mathews, Mazeroski, Bunning, Killebrew, McCovey, Morgan).

Thanks Dan!
I thought the same thing when I first saw it, and couldn't believe it was Spanish back Venezuelan. But it was and I gulped and snatched it up as quick as I could

I second DBesse, that card is amazing!!!! You don't have to answer, but what did you pay for that? I know it had to be a lot.

Paid a penny under $4K.
It listed on ebay and I happened to be searching at the moment for new listings. Made an offer right away, waited. The page fews mounted. Then a few minutes later decided to pull the trigger on the ask.
My guess is that I would get my money back if I ever decided to sell it. What do you guys think?

I doubt you'll ever want to part with it such that it is a moot point .

For these types of cards, I've always found it is very difficult to predict price. If you listed it again, you could take a huge loss on it or do really well. The lack of steady demand for oddball items really leads to some fluctuations. Ylu may have been the only one looking for that card at the time, but who knows who will be looking if you ever need to part with it? One registry guy and you've got a substantially more valuable card. I know, if I collected Mays, I would have had a difficult time not pulling the trigger at that price, particularly as poor versions of other players being around that price.

HI Brian,

I'll give you every penny you paid in a heartbeat. I saw it in the sold listings! Incredible card and off the charts in that condition. Happier to know was you who got it. Great buy!

Personally I think it was well worth the money spent. Haven't seen many as nice as the Mays. I think it would have likely sold at that price to someone else if you didn't acquire it first. Congrats on the pickup!

If I were a betting man, I'd say you'd get more than what you paid if you considered selling it right now.

Wasn't there some low number 67 card which less than 5 copies exist. IIRC, didn't Olbermann pay a ton of money for that card I'm referring to

I recently picked up a couple of very nice 1977 Venezuelans for my Reds collection. The Bench is the highest graded.

My card is hung up in Venezuela at FedEx. It's been nearly 2 weeks and no tracking info has been updated. I contacted the seller and he's looking into it. He's confident I'll get the card. I'll have no choice, but to give it another week and then facilitate a return, which really sucks.

Ryan, I hope it comes! I've bought a bit from Venezuela and it all seems to show up sooner or later.

I've gotten every package so far from Venezuela but the last one "missed pick-up time" and was a week late.

I buy a lot from Venezuelan sellers and my packages have varied from three days to three weeks. Twice they got hung up at the same located assuming it is a customs location and they can sit there for quite awhile but I have gotten every package eventually. Rick

I've bought quite a few VZs from Venezuela as well and never had an issue. He has 100% feedback, and I'm fairly sure I've bought from him before, with no issues, so when he said he dropped it off I believe him.

I asked him if he wouldn't mind heading over there and seeing what's up and he told me that they were looking for the package. With everything that's going on in Caracas, I wouldn't be surprised if things aren't running 100% efficiently, but I wonder at what point should I pull the plug, it's been 3 weeks and no status update on the tracking. I'm gonna message him on Wed. asking him to go down there, have them locate the package, and update the tracking manually. I paid a few hundred dollars for the card, it's the least he can do, right? Or am I being paranoid and asking for too much?

As an aside, I looked up FedEx in Caracas on Google and it says it's permanently closed, but I have no idea if that's recent or not. I have only heard of the gov. taking over the GM plant. Haven't heard anything about FedEx.

Great news on the Venezuelan front. Tracking shows the card was picked up today and I should get it on Friday, so pictures will be forthcoming.

NICE!!!!! I always thought it'd be cool to collect a single card, starting from PSA-1 to PSA-10, and then lining them up in order. That would look really cool, especially as a display piece.

My thanks to several members on this board who helped educate me on spotting the real from fake Venezuelan stamps. I picked this one up a few months ago. I was almost certain it was real when I bought it. Turns out I was right. Considering there arent that many out there and Ive been hunting specifically for a Davey Johnson; I feel really fortunate to have this one.

I don't know about SGC, but PSA is worthless on telling if a 1972 Topps Venezuelan is authentic or not. They have no clue. Your card is authentic. The two biggest differences are the "R" in ORIOLES is thin on your card on the left and is fat on the fake card on the right, and more noticeably, the font on DAVE JOHNSON is thin on your card on the left and is fatter on the fake card on the right.

Latest pick up. Rough shape, but it's one of the scarcer commons and the price was right. 56 more to go to complete the 1967 MLB set.

HUGE addition to my Red Sox rookie PC. Considering a PSA crossover. Card has no creases or surface damage. Just the rounded corners and you can see the printing on the back is off (color and his name are in the right place, but the rest is printed offcenter).
