Incorrect. Post Canadian looks like this, with French text:
1962 Post Canadian - [Base] #95 - Gene Stephens [VG] Courtesy of COMC.com Looks like a Jell-O to me.

As far as I can tell there was no Jello issued in Canada Only Post. The number and picture lines up to be a 1962 Jello card.
The post cereal of the same player ,same year has a blue boarder around the stats on the bottom of the card.I am certainly no expert. But I would say it is a 1962 Jello card. Also take note the Jello card has noting on it to say it is Jello. While the Post card has POST wrote on it.

62 Jello Stephens
Definitely a Jell-O Card. Also one of the more tougher cards to collect. As of now we have not identified what flavor of Jell-O or pudding he was on.

Sorry Peter
I’m sorry about that. I just been collecting these for a really long time. The interesting thing is that the author of this thread got his on eBay a couple weeks ago. 30 bucks I believe. Quite a deal. A couple years ago on eBay, I got one that a really good price. But nothing even close to $30. Many many many times more. Sometimes it’s just lucking out and being at the right place at the right time.

I ate box after box of Sugar Crisp as a kid in 1962 trying to complete a set of the Canadian Post Baseball cards. I eventually realized that a set couldn't be completed from Sugar Crisp alone. Here's a copy of the ad that was included in the comic sections of Saturday newspapers in the spring of 1962 to advertise these cards:
I've been pecking away at the set since 1980 or so but it's gone slowly since there are multiple short prints and I'm very picky when it comes to whiteness as well as cut. Here are scans of some from my collection: I also have three intact sheets that were inserted inside boxes of Sugar Crisp between the cardboard and the cereal bag: The other five Canadian Sugar Crisp panels are high on my Baseball Want List with the one containing Willie Mays being my highest priority: That's because I traded a Willie Mays panel off eighteen months ago to a Post collecting buddy in Pennsylvania who made me a very decent offer of the Ernie Banks panel, a couple of other shortprints and a small wad of cash for it.

Cool! Who knows? Maybe in a year or three we'll meet at the National Show and swap stories if not cards.

62 Canadian Post
The Bunning/Buzhardt sheet has special meaning for me. In 1962 when I was 6 years old I went to my first Detroit Tigers game. Tigers/White Sox. Starting pitchers: Jim Bunning and Johnny Buzhardt. Since I collect Post Cereal, I bought it to have as an example. Just luck for the 2 players on it.

Oh man, that's too cool! How long have you had the sheet and were you able to get it for a reasonable price?

62 Canadian Sheet
I purchased the sheet from a gentleman in Toronto on ebay in 1998. I paid $20.00 dollars for it. He and I developed a great relationship and I was able to purchase a near complete 1963 Post Cereal Canadian Football Album from him along with 45 single 1962 Canadian football and 50 1963 Canadian Football singles. We also traded plastic football players that were in other cereals. He had a couple of duplicates from the Canadian side and I had some from the US side. I finished my 1963 Canadian football set. As for the 62 Canadian football I am down to the last 8 short prints. (Impossible to find and costly) He also got me interested in the Jello/Kraft Hockey sets from the late 80's/90's and I have full sets of those along with quite a few full Jello boxes. Since I grew up in Detroit, we got the Canadian station (Channel 9) So I got to watch Canadian Football and Hockey Night in Canada. It was great!

Cool! I acquired three 1962 Sugar Crisp Baseball panels and all five 1962 Sugar Crisp CFL panels at a small local show in London from a Sarnia area dealer in the early 1990's.
They were all still available at reasonable prices at the time. We used to visit my uncle and his family in Detroit once or twice a year during my school years. The first NHL game I ever saw was at the Olympia on Xmas Eve in 1967(?). The final score was Toronto Maple Leafs 3 Detroit Red Wings 1.

But it's not uncommon to be a bit less knowledgeable here, even among TPG acolytes, since these jumbo issues don't get graded very often. For better or worse, I've graded a lot of jumbo issues with PSA, so have a bit more experience than most. When it comes to jumbo issues, the grading tends to be very challenging, particularly with vintage stuff. There's just so much real estate, big long edges, etc. that the odds of imperfections is really high. I'd have to take a really close look at this one through the slab, but my guess is that the edges are imperfect with some dents and dings, the corners are a little soft, and the surface almost certainly has some added imperfections with potential scratches, abrasions, toning, and small marks/staining. So you add it all up, and they call it a 3. As an added bonus, it was relatively recently graded, and many commentators feel that recent grading is more conservative than it used to be, to the tune of 1-2 grades. So this might have graded a 4 or a 5 in former times. Obviously it's a nice looking copy. At the moment, it's the highest ever graded by PSA. It's certainly possible that they will grade nicer copies in the future, but I'm guessing that's unlikely. Even if there are nicer copies, it's unlikely that they'll grade much higher, just due to the factors I outlined above.

Well yours certainly looks nicer than the one I had in my collection two years ago:
Mine was nice and white but exhibited a lot of stress along the center perforation. Incidentally, how do you define the master Willie Mays set which you say you're close to completing?

The cards were issued on/in six different cereals in nine different size boxes. Alpha Bits were in 7 and 10 oz boxes, Bran Flakes in 8 or 14 oz boxes and Grape Nut Flakes were in 7 or 12 oz boxes.. The other things these ads show are the different "box front" cards. Some of us collect them as well. Mantle is shown below Looking at the ad we see Frank Lary on the Grape Nuts box, Roger Maris on the Grape Nut Flakes box, Willie Mays on the Bran Flakes box, Norm Cash on the Oat Flakes box Mickey Mantle on the Alpha Bits box, I have to assume that the different size boxes of the three cereals named above had different player "box front" cards as I have seen listed somewhere Whitey Ford, Jim Gentile, and Eddie Mathews appear on box front cards and... Finally Roberto Clemente is on the Sugar Crisp box. This brings up a few things. You see in the ads a hand pulling cards out of the top of the box. This is because the six card panels Vay has shown and noted come from the Sugar Crisp boxes. The ad shows a single card panel. Was it folded in half? All other cereals had the cards printed on the back of the box.. Why were the cards inserted INTO the boxes of Sugar Crisps? I believe it is because the Sugar Crisp boxes were plain cardboard and for whatever reason had a cellophane wrapper with all the "graphics" on it. The cards could not be printed on this cellophane wrapper so they had to be placed in the box. I say this because at one time I had a partial cellophane wrapper for the Post Canadian Football set. I have to think the same would have been the case with the Sugar Crisp baseball. Getting back to the "box front" cards If anyone has any available PLMK

Don't ask me why Post treated Sugar Crisp differently in 1962, but the six card panels were inserted between the foil bag containing the Sugar Crisp cereal and the inside of the box. And the panels weren't folded but inserted flat. I know because I got my mother to buy box after box of Sugar Crisp in 1962 to get the Baseball and then the CFL cards but after a short while I was perturbed to be getting doubles. Given the popularity of Sugar Crisp, Post should have made about fifteen different Baseball sheets instead of eight and twelve different CFL sheets instead of five available in Sugar Crisp. And yes I got really tired of the stuff back in 1962 and I haven't bought any Sugar Crisp since! Maybe I'll now try a box just for old time's sake.... But I'm now very glad that Post had to insert panels into Sugar Crisp for these card promotions because some panels have survived unbroken to this very day and they're an absolute delight to get! The Baseball panels are much more expensive than the CFL panels because so many more American collectors are interested in the Baseball panels making these demand scarce. I just wish Post had made several more different panels for the Canadian Sugar Crisp boxes....

Dan Mabey Post 1961-63 Baseball Promotion Books
Hello Fellow POSTulates. A Net54 enthusiast suggested I place the following notification on this thread.
I'm happy to announce that books covering the 1961 and 1963 Post baseball U.S. promotion and 1962 Canadian Post baseball promotion are finally being reissued. The print shop estimates the job will be done on 7 November. Based on the printer's price quote, I am estimating that the books will run $30-$50 each. Each will have a color plasticized cover and be bound in a plastic claw spiral. Cardboard, Crunch, Milk & Scissors (CCM&S) -- 1961 Post is 126 black and white (B&W) pages. Postage Due -- 1963 Post is 84 B&W pages. Northern Exposure -- 1962 Post Canadian is 23 color and 48 B&W pages. Having lost all of the digital masters for the books in moving from South Carolina to California, I have re-created the monographs and actually made some minor additions. The books will be generated using paper mats and using a new print shop. The quoted price necessitates restricting CCM&S and Postage Due to twenty (20) copies. Due to the cost of color pages, Northern Exposure will be limited to ten (10) copies. The foregoing announcement is simply a "heads up" to my valued and patient fellow Post baseball card friends. No need to respond, and I will be sending out a notice once the reprinted books are in my hands. In the interim, my only request is that you take time to vote in your local and general elections. Blessings to each of you and don't hesitate to KEEPMEPOSTED! |

Thinking back, I collected or dabbled in the following items throughout 1962:
1961-62 Shirriff/Salada Hockey Coins Leaf Spook Stories cards 1962 Topps Baseball cards 1962 Shirriff Baseball Coins Jell-O/Hostess Aircraft Wheels 1962 Post Cereal Baseball cards 1962 Post Cereal CFL cards Topps Civil War News cards 1962-63 Topps Hockey cards DC Superhero comics & Archie Jaguar comics marbles pea shooter But what made the Post Cereal cards extra special and a particular delight was they didn't require any spending on my part. I'd just accompany my mom to the supermarket and "help" her out selecting groceries for the family.
