1957 Mantle Authentic
The 1957 Mantle has an SGC Authentic rate at more than 10%. This is much higher than other stars of the set. I have one that measures correctly but the diamond cut does make it look suspect.
Has anyone ever had any luck resubmitting Auth cards to SGC? I would like to shoot for a number grade. |

Funny in that the '57 Mantle usually comes with bad s-s centering problems, but I have noticed that centered or decently centered ones do seem to have their fair share of mild tilt or diamond cut problems.
I've never played the resub A game for a number with SGC, but both them and PSA frequently eventually put them in numbered slabs if you buy what you hear on this forum and elsewhere online.

If that's the only problem, I could see it getting into a slab with a number, but then you're not showing your card so that we can see the level of tilt/diamond cut.
The 1957 Mantle would also be a prime candidate for pressing during the days of the screwdown holders, so if it was ever in one of those, PSA usually rejects those.

1957 Topps Mantle
Just got this back from PSA . 1957 Topps Mantle .It was not slabbed, but graded N8 Miscut. It would have been slabbed and listed as "Auth" if listed on the submission as minimum grade accepted. A beautiful card with an "A" only possibility. Measures correctly. I was charge $ 0.
N8 Miscut - This term is used when the factory cut is abnormal for the issue, causing the card's edges to deviate from their intended appearance. You will not be charged the grading fee in this instance. Note that this designation can qualify for encapsulation as "Authentic" at the grader's discretion and if "Auth" is listed on the submission form as the desired minimum grade. You will be charged the applicable grading fee in the latter case.

I have had great luck sending back "bad" cards to PSA and getting a # grade. SGC not so much. Last edited by bnorth; 12-27-2024 at 07:39 PM. |

Yep, that's the definition of an N8 miscut. It's not rectangular.
