Default 1913 1914 Tailor Made Mathewson Chance

I know these are from a salesman sample booklet during 1913-1914. I have been able to find others that are advertising displays, but have not yet been able to come across any other players that look like these. Has anyone happen to come across others from this sample booklet? Curious to know if a checklist is available.

Never seen these, but there is another Tailer-Made book with poster sized pages of Matty and Chance but different from the ones shown, as well as a Walter Johnson and maybe another player or two. It's been a long time since I've seen any of them. The likenesses in those are much better than the ones shown here, and the backgrounds much more elaborate.

I’m surprised I haven’t been able to located a single example outside of these that look the same. I also found the others, but nothing like these.

Yes, these examples look nothing like the persons named, but dang, those are some pretty snappy suits!

I either owned those 2 or ones just like them. That was several years ago.

They don't have anything to do with this but when I see players in fancy suits, from the early 1900s, they remind me of this postcard.

Had the Ty Cobb, sold about 8 years ago. No photo Available. Mine was poster size and I had it framed.

This was the same artwork as the poster-sized sample book Chance, which also had a WaJo, a Matty, and perhaps one or two other ballplayers. I had two of the Johnsons, perhaps the only ones I've ever seen, pass through my hands, and along with the others floating around the hobby at one time, it didn't seem as though they were all that rare. Of course, it takes time to realize just how scarce some of these things are, and after maybe 25 years without seeing a single example of any of them, that's certainly the case here. I'm also wondering if they made postcards of all of them, but Leon's is the first and only one of those I've ever seen, so who knows?

Leon - I was told that they were samples for Royal Tailor. Maybe they are from another company I suppose.

Default 1914 Royal Tailor Album Pages

I picked these three 1914 Royal Tailor album pages up last year in a Leland's auction. I really only wanted the Johnson as a gift for my son-in-law who lives and works near Washington D.C. But before I could figure out what to do with the other two, pitcher Eddie Plank and entertainer Joe Foy, my daughter saw them and wanted all three. So, I got all three framed (or reframed in the case of Foy) and they are hanging in her Bethesda home.

Wow, George, that's really bringing it! This forum can be amazing. Now I'm wondering if I actually mis-remembered and that it was a Plank instead of Chance I saw many years ago, also if I might have mis-remembered a Royal Tailor Matty for the Crack-a-Jack Matty I know exists. At any rate, I did have two WaJos at one point, and neither of them was this one, so that makes three of those known. A truly rare and beautiful issue whatever players were depicted.

Default Tailor-Made Clothing Company

I figured I would post a follow-up to this on what I have been able to find through some research. These items have been attributed to Royal Tailor Made company, and somewhat similar items can be found. From what I have been able to gather these actually came from a possible salesman sample from the company Tailor-Made Clothing Company based in Chicago - they later became Kings Tailor Made Clothing. I have been able to find random advertising and even a different salesman sample that includes fabric and other pictures, but nothing to do with baseball. From everything I have been able to find so far these are the only two examples that have surfaced. No other copies or players have come for auction or have been sold that I have been able to locate. If anyone happens to know something different I would love to know about it.
