Default Any thoughts on these photos

This eBay auction just ended:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/13540125152...1&toolid=20001

I could find nothing related to these "cards" except some references to the shoe repair/department store that closed down some time ago. They have photos from the Annis Furs issue, but in the end, I thought they might be some novelty or fantasy pieces so did not bid, even the Greenberg is certainly cool looking.

Any thoughts?

Annis Furs in a different size photo presentation, but the surface print is the same.

Yes, the photo is the same but has a stranger border. So you think these are the real deal? Has anyone seen anything like them before?

Definitely Real deal I'd say, and a seemingly bargain price. I like the inconsistent nature of the stamps, great sign of legitimacy.

This was a dime store chain that had stores in Michigan (among other states). I would guess they took advantage of the success of the Tigers in the mid thirties to promote business. Who knows, "Fix a shoe, get a picture."

Never saw these before.

The borders suggest that these “cards” were cut from a larger poster (not very well, I might add).

My first thought was Annis Furs. I am always a bit leery of the back stamps we haven't seen as someone could have stamped them yesterday. Definitely cut from a sheet or poster.

And an Annis Fur to compare
.

Like Leon said I believe the weird border lines show that they probably were together as an ornate poster or something. Perkins and Baker being the two that show a perfect match. Unfortunately seems like quite a few images are missing, but then again the missing pieces could've just been artsy design that tied the images together.

That's a pretty insane detail to add imo if you are making a fantasy set. It just seems so unlikely, especially with the stamp inconsistency and diamond cuts/miscuts.

I am not saying fantasy. I am saying they can be original photos/cuts, cut from an advertisement sheet, and stamped at any point before that picture was taken.

I would also guess that these cards were cut from some kind of poster and then stamped on the back. Whether that was period of not I don't know. But I wouldn't call them cards. More like a homemade set if anything.

Sorry, that wasn't a reply to your post, just the part about the Poster.

It was for folks earlier in the post who had doubts and maybe anybody reading who also does.

Interesting ideas--maybe they were cut from a poster advertising Annis Furs cards? Come to think of it, what were Annis Furs anyway? From an old thread, it seems that those cards were distributed in team packs and were not give-aways that came with the furs (LOL).

Ironically, a set of Annis Furs in reasonable condition will cost more than a mink fur coat at this point....

I was the other bidder ....figured out they were from the Annis Furs poster before bidding ended....seemed like too much for just a guy cutting up the poster, but having the Greenberg would be cool....now if the whole poster ever pops up that's different story....lol
