Default Wheat

Thats a good question, someone a lot smarter than me can probably figure it out. I think I have a letter where he talks about the third baseman but it may be from a different time period. I will take a look at it.

Default Wheat show-and-tell?

here's my Zack Wheat item from the 1900's...not as cool as any of Kenny's stuff, but definitely not your run-of-the-mill item either!

He is pictured with his younger brother, McKinley "Mack" Wheat, who also played MLB for Brooklyn. I presume the youngest in the photo is another sibling.

That is his brother Curtis. He also played a little but never made it to the big leagues. Nice piece.

I'm mildly disturbed that you even own that "card". You think a TPG would slab that thing? Where's our facial expert when you need him? The ears are all wrong!!

I'm trying to figure it out, thought it might be Pryor McElveen, but it's not. I would love to know, anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah - I'm kidding (my sense of humor doesn't come out well in written form). I was going to state something to the effect of the baby looking more like Mack than Zack...

Also, was Curtis nicknamed Crack to join Mack and Zack??

In all honesty, where were these items introduced to the hobby? I was disengaged from the hobby for a 7-8 year span.

Zach Wheat game bat -- it's the third from the bottom in both photos. Sorry the closeup is a bit out of focus.

Great items. Seeing that baby photo of Wheat brings back a bad 'missed deal' memory: I spotted a cabinet of Willie Hoppe as a child, and thinking it would slip under the radar, bid fairly low to avoid getting bitten by shilling. I lost

Anyway, great Wheat collection.
