Looking For Info on 1860's Team w/X On Their Jersey

I have a small cut down albumen photo that has a baseball team of nine with a cursive style capital X on their uniform. The piece measures 2 9/16" x 3 1/2" having been cut down at some point.

On the back is a penciled notation 1867 Elmira N.Y. which may or may not be correct.

Did any of the Excelsior clubs ever use the X?

Any help?
