Default A Question based on Baseball Americana

After recieving Baseball Americana I flipped through and noticed something interesting. On page 91 there is a photo that represents a Spaldings Official Baseball Guide, but it is the Spanish American Edition. I had no idea these even exist. Or do they???? Ive never seen one and would love to if anyone has one they would like to share!

You can also email at tlwise12@aol.com

Thanks Travis

Travis- the Spanish American edition of the Spalding Guide is rare, but I have seen a number of copies. According to Grobani (the definitive baseball book checklist) they were issued between 1906-14. There were also British, Australian, and Cuban editions.

I think they are pretty expensive. I would think a decent copy would be in the $600-800 range, and even that may be low. However, I've never had one to sell so I am just guessing.

Barry

If I'm recalling correctly, wasn't there also a Canadian edition?

I don't see any listing for a Canadian Guide in Grobani. I suppose it could still possibly exist.

Max, I believe you're right in that there is a Canadian edition.

Barry/Clint

I'm fairly sure I've seen one. For some time, Canada had restrictive publishing tariffs, requiring the printing of separate Canadian editions. I've got a copy of the Canadian edition of one of the Matty books that is virtually similar to the Dodd Mead edition. As well, I have a separate Canadian edition of The Battle of Baseball.

Max/ Clint- in the 1990's I bought a large baseball book collection, and two pieces I passed on (because they were much too expensive) were Bryce's Canadian Baseball Guides for 1876 and 1877. But of course they weren't Spaldings.

(shouldn't this thread be moved to the memorabilia side?)
