Hey guys...gonna double mat this 8x10 of Drysdale but debating on which direction to go. What do you all think? White or Cream outer mat and either red or blue inner mat, or....red or blue outer mat with the opposite inner mat? Or something else. Just cant decide.

I'm stuck on lighter colors for the top mat of mine.
I would suggest you match the cream color of his uniform and then match the blue for the bottom mat.
Post a pic when finished!!

Your choice of colors might be influenced by the wall color or that of objects near where you plan to display it.
Good luck!

Black frame
Blue outer mat, to match his cap and sleeves
Off-white inner mat, with no more than 3/8" showing

You can experiment with different color combos, but IMHO (after doing hundreds of these) the above scenario will yield the best result for your Drysdale.

I agree. I think this would really make the photo pop.

Sold!!! I will hopefully get the framing done this week, along with a couple of other items.

I just got this ruth check already framed, but hated the way it was put together with the cert, so decided to redo it. I like this sooo much better.
A couple of Kreindlers always make things better

Infinitely better. Looks great, and love the Kreindlers.

So silly to mat/frame the LOA, which is just a supporting piece with no aesthetic value whatsoever.

Fantastic job!

Thanks. I thought the same about the cert. No idea why anyone would want it displayed like that.

I would never mat the cert, but I do tape it to the back of the frame which is better than looking for it later. Nice job Mark.

Just a thought but, for insurance/theft purposes, you may want to keep it separate. I keep all of my COAs in a fireproof safe. If anything in my collection should walk off, I figure that’s decent evidence I owned that particular piece.

Loving all the frames. Wish I had the wall space. Being an art collector as well, I sorta had to choose which direction to go with my walls.

I take it one step further than that. Most of what i frame are copies with the originals and any certs in a safe deposit box. The Ruth, Johnson, Cobb, Wagner, Speaker, and Collins above are all framed copies. I do a high quality print and no one can tell the difference.

Can you tell us where or how you make these copies? I'm thinking this is the way to go.

I scan them at home on my scanner and then print them. I usually choose a very high dpi scan setting to get as much detail as i can. I will then print using different setting to see which gives the best/closest result.
As you can see above, the original check has a little bit more green/gray hue to it than the copy i framed. The way i think about it is that no one is going to know the real original color, so as long as it is close enough and looks good, I'll use it.
When i get home later, I'll take a picture of some of the other tests printings that did not make the cut.
Also, for most of the paper items, like checks/3x5s, i use plain paper for the final frame as glossy and matte photo paper make the items look like photos and not originals.

Thanks!
So if I were to copy a photo I would use glossy or matt, depending on the look that I want?

Yes. Photos will probably look best on photo paper. I would go with whatever you think gives it the most original feel or looks best. Display is all about personal preference, so even if the original is glossy, if you think matte looks better only you will know the difference.

I have an Epson all in one. I forget the number. I think its and eco tank one. I used to have an Epson expression(I think) 830. That was better for photos, but i think any would probably work.

I have an Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner. I guess I need to play with options.
Thanks

I usually scan at around 1200 for thing I am going to print and then test print from a few different programs with a few different settings to see which comes out best. As long as you have a high res scan, you should be able to get a pretty good print from it.

Bought some matting tools, far from perfect. Did however make my own custom Perez for Mr Cicotte who should have had one anyways since he had a HOF career. Thanks guys for the inspiration.

Interesting thread. While I am uncomfortable to some degree putting rare photos on my wall, the idea of putting copies of them on the wall and storing the originals wouldn't work for me. Would be like staring at fake cards all day. I go with the archival paper, UV glass, etc., and hope nothing ever happens. And it helps peace of mind wise having a security camera in the room.

I just framed this one myself with a kit purchased off amazon. Not professional grade but I'm really happy with it. 1947 Sporting News.

That is a great photo. Well done.

I hear what you are saying about the copies. Not all of mine on the wall are copies. I just want to protect the most valuable ones
