Default Ebay search question

I know this isn't an old enough card for this forum, but thought the contributors here might be the best informed to help me out.
I have listed a PSA graded1955 Koufax Topps rookie card on eBay but when I do a search for "1955 Koufax Topps" it doesn't show in the search results. I add "PSA" to the search request, and it shows up. I remove "PSA" from the search request, check the "PSA" professional grader box on the left, and it shows up. So my question is why doesn't it show up with the less restrictive "1955 Koufax Topps" search request. Shouldn't the other additional restrictions in the search exclude items and not extra cards not in the original search?

thanks for any help.

Do you have a link to your specific item? That might help us see why it would/wouldn't show up.

I've often found the ebay search tool to be inconsistent.

A search on 1955 Koufax Topps lists 728 results including your card

A search on 1955 Topps Koufax Topps lists 147 results not including your card

That is so bizarre. I’ve been on eBay 20 years and it never occurred to me that the order of search terms mattered. I wonder how many items I never saw because of that.

I think your best wording for search (due to weighted search) is:

"1955 Topps Sandy Koufax #123 PSA 3.5 ROOKIE Nice centering-Clean"

Thanks everyone, I will redo my listing as suggested. Now I have to check all of my eBay searches to see what I have been missing all these years.

I agree. As an IT person with almost 40 years of working with applications, data, and databases, the search functionality on eBay is abhorrent. Typically one of the many byproducts of outsourcing development of your application development and support overseas.

When I am searching as a buyer, I use as few words as possible for inclusion, but have more of excluded (minus in front of the word).

From a technical perspective, usually I can figure out how best to enter keywords in almost any application (i.e. the AND and OR connections for example) after understand how the searching works. With eBay for 30 years now, I cannot figure it. I think part of it is because it seems to change with different updates.

If I were a seller, that would drive me nuts.
