Default How is T206 not an MC Qualifier?

I waited until this auction ended but now i must ask:

How was this not given a "miscut (MC)" qualifier from PSA??

I was wondering the same thing, I guess they forgot to look at the front.

PSA rocks...where inconsistencies rule! I've been supremely annoyed with PSA's lack of consistency w/miscut/OC qualifiers. They are all over the board!

You can request "no qualifier," but that should bring the grade down by roughly 2 full points.

Think this would have been a PSA 7.5 (MC)?

I thought they don't give half grade points w/qualifiers.

The OC qualifier would bring it down 2 points, while the MC qualifier would bring it down 3 points. So if someone requested no qualifiers, that means this card would have had to have been a PSA 8.5 (MC). So I think it's just a FUBAR (not our board member) by PSA here.

Common-sense world:
Q: "What's the card's grade?"
A: "PSA 8 with "MC" qualifier."

Bizzar-o world:
Q: "What's the card's grade?"
A: "Depends. This same card could be either a PSA 5.5, PSA 7.5 with "OC" qualifier, or a PSA 8.5 with "MC" qualifier. Any more questions?"

Maybe the person who submitted it for grading sends in large submissions on a regular basis

Can you request "Overlook the paper loss on back?"

Here is a recent PSA 6 that sold on ebay and has paper loss on the back - the 'm' in Piedmont.

Shouldn't a card with paper loss be a PSA 2 at best? If so, this card is over graded by 4 grades.

Edited to add: borderline miscut too

Mac,

Nice one-handed catch! One correction, the Tinker looks real (probably) but would legitimately only grade authentic, since it looks trimmed.

Lovely Day...

Send a scan to PSA and ask them why. I'm sure they will give you an answer

Anything is a possibility, but I don't think so. This card was sold on eBay a few weeks ago by one of our own board members. Looking at his feedback, he has an excellent reputation on eBay although I have never dealt with him. It appears that he sells a lot of high end cards among other things. I don’t want to call him out, but a little research will tell you who it is.

The biggest mystery to me was that the card appeared to only have psa 5 or 5.5 corners, like the grade given. Normally a grade given like that with the centering, you can expect at least 7 quality corners.

PSA isn't nearly as harsh on paper loss as SGC. I really don't understand how SGC could grade a card with sharp corners and a spot of paper loss on the back a 20, and in the same submission, grade a card with an ugly crease a 40.

Some of you guys get too caught up in the professional grading. If the card looks good to you and the price is right, buy it, unless you are concerned with authenticity.

A qualifier is a qualifier is a qualifier IMO.

There shouldn't be any option to downgrade in order to remove a qualifier. I thought one of the main purposes of the grading card companies was to help quell doubt of dealers self-grading their cards when you buy something sight unseen.

Off-centering is a big aesthetic pet peeve to a lot of people. Front as well as back of a card.

I don't deal much in graded cards but I'd rather have a nice clean 5, rather then a way off-center 7 or 8.

Not pre-war (or baseball), but I was recently burned when I upgraded my 1960T Jim Brown. Was a PSA 7. Saw the front when I bought it (was about 65/35 or so, which is acceptable to me), but when I got it in, I flipped to the back and the whole left side of the border was missing.
