Default Is this a Golf token or marker or?

I may be reaching but I looked at this trying to figure out what it is. It is not a coin but a token? Golf marker? The word on the horse (?) side seems to be COP. Where I have an arrow pointing what I think is a golfer the lettering seems to be IVV39. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi Jim--

I don't think it's a golf marker because of the raised figures on both sides & the beveled edge. Golf markers are pretty flat all around so's not to throw a ball off-line if it should cross it!

I believe this may be a bronze coin. If you have a coin dealer, you may want to drop by and show it to them. They may be better able to get you an answer.

Good luck

Butch,

That was my first thought but the image of a golfer and the numbers and words made me wonder if it wasn't from some overseas tournament.

Thanks.

Jim

I think it's a bronze version of an ancient Greek coin from Gela. Or possibly a replica.

Jim,

I would not discount a trip to a coin dealer. Let them tell you what it is or is not.

Cheers,

Butch.

Butch,

Thanks. I went on a coin site posing the same question and the answer across the board is that this is definitely a copy. I just wish I knew how we ended up with it .

Well, my other hobby is/was metal detecting. I can tell you from experience, you find a lot of things that you look back and wonder.......why did I keep this??

And a few, how did I end up with this too! ; - )

Jim - download the "Google Lens" app on your phone. You'll see plenty of search results. Scott
