Default Is Anyone Actually Gonna Watch This???

I didn't put it in sports because that would be dignifying it...

An old fart and a dweeb...no thanks.

Sorry, I read the poster as "A Live Goofball Sports Event".

I have NetFlix, so I'll probably watch it eventually out of curiosity...but likely not "Live", as I don't really give a fudge about it in real time.

Prime "Butterbean" would have probably deposited Jake Paul into the 3rd row. Unfortunately, 59 year-old Mike Tyson, who got beat badly by journeymen 20 years ago, and has been smoking weed almost non-stop ever since, should probably be worried about his health in this one.

Of course, the very likely possibility is this is probably just going to be a sparring session, and both guys are going to be laughing at the rest of us, while Netflix backs up a Brinks truck full of money to both of their front doors.

Certainly won't watch it but definitely hoping Tyson rearranges Paul's brain a little.

I don’t think it’ll ever happen they canceled it once already ,
And July 20th - why so far away ?
So they can both get paid for interviews and podcast for nine months .
Paul’s not interested in losing to a 59 year old and Tyson is not interested in losing to a non-boxing joker

That was the old fight date.

Tyson had a bad ulcer flare-up on a plane flight close to the original date, which caused it to be postponed.

Been re-scheduled to November 15th.

It will happen. Too much money for it not to happen. Whether it will be a legitimate combat event, or an "Entertainment Event", with a pre-determined outcome is another question entirely.

I certainly wouldn't be putting any money on it if you're a gambling person...unless you know the script-writer personally.

Will watch when free. Never was a Tyson fan so IF it is a real fight it will be fun to watch him get beat like a rented mule. Unless Mike gets lucky in the first round he will be in for a long night until Jake feels sorry for him and KOs him.

Was talking about this today
Think Mike has to do it within the first 3rounds
If not Mike is done

New article on ESPN

https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/...ctioned-safety

A couple of telling excerpts from the article:

Quote:
It was originally set for July 20 but was postponed in late May after Tyson suffered an ulcer flareup while on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

Ulcers occur when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract and results in abdominal pain. Perhaps more worrisome, Tyson revealed on Netflix's prefight documentary, "Countdown: Paul vs Tyson," that he threw up blood during that same flight.

"I had a big ulcer, two-and-a-half inches, and it was bleeding," Tyson said. "All my friends were calling me like I was dying. I asked the doctor if I was going to die, and she didn't say 'No.' ... You wouldn't believe what I endured from my ulcer. I lost 26 pounds."

And

Quote:
While the fight is sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, there are three major caveats. Tyson and Paul will wear 14-ounce gloves rather than the standard 10-ounce gloves for heavyweight fights; the rounds will be two minutes rather than three minutes; and the fight will be contested over eight rounds rather than 10 or 12.

14 oz gloves and 2 minute rounds? It's a joke. Paul is the new Butterbean.

I don’t remember Butterbean fighting any 58 year-old ulcer patients.

How many body punches to a 58-year-old man, with a 2 1/2-inch ulcer, will it take for more blood to be spit up and the fight called?

From the slap at the weigh in it looks like one is at least taking it seriously while the other is just acting like the clown he is.

Hopefully Paul gets a bad awakening from this.

Now, if they made it a bitch-slap competition, I would watch

As it stands, the real competition is over who has the worst ink.

My wife is at an event this evening, I am home alone w/a broken foot...so I am probably going to watch it. I think this is what the addicts call "rock bottom".

Apparently Netflix is using the same live streaming infrastructure as Amazon did for their first NFL games.

+1

It came back just in time to see the bad decision. Reminds me of NFL officiating.

I don't know what Jake Paul does and I don't care enough to look it up. I'm assuming this is boxing.

I got part of the undercard, but only about a half minute of the main event. Spent the rest of the fight in endless buffer mode, not able to see anything but the promo screen.

I cancelled my Netflix subscription (which I'd had since 2012.) It reminded me of the frustrations when auctions were frequently crashing during the final hours. What an annoying waste of time. And from what I see online, the fight itself wasn't much, anyway.

I got the whole Main Event, though a couple rounds were a lower quality buffer. You didn’t miss anything. The whole fight was a buffer.

Just sad. Iron Mike is a shell of himself. If he was a horse they’d shoot him. Even his trunks are falling apart. Dude needs a walker. No spring in his legs. Can’t get off.

Neither one of them was a loser last night when taking into consideration what they both made from this debacle.

Tyson - estimated $20 mill
Paul - estimated $40 mill

Wow, that sure didn't go the way Tyson fans and Paul haters wanted.
What were people honestly expecting??? Tyson would magically become 24 again and murder Paul???
For anyone being realistic, the fight went EXACTLY as expected.

I give Tyson credit, just picked up 20 million for basically an exhibition match at age 58.

Good job Mike!!

Yes they both done great for themselves. I just never understood anyone giving Mike a chance. A 58 year old man competing in boxing with a 27 year old is insane.

Nostalgia and the fact Jake Paul isn't very good, is what deluded people into giving him a chance.

I honestly figured Jake would have easily KOed or at least TKOed him.

I done a lot of boxing when young(55 now) and have gone and sparred with the kids off and on since then. Once you hit that first of 2 big declines in life in your mid 40s you are done being able to fight with kids except for fun. Even with a ton of experience the speed difference is just too much to overcome in boxing in my experience.

I think he could have. Looked like he probably carried him for the last half of the fight.

Looked like a poor mans version of the Larry Holmes / Muhammad Ali fight, where at a certain point Larry was practically begging the ref to stop the fight because he didn't want to hurt Ali, and he knew Ali wasn't going to willingly quit or go down easy, though in this case it was more Paul just taking his foot off the gas when he realized Tyson was just physically exhausted.

Holmes had a similar reaction when he fought Tex Cobb, but for different reasons.

I don't think anyone gave him a chance, but I don't think anyone expected his best punch would be the slap at the weigh-in. For all Tyson did, they could have rented his wax dummy and propped it up in there instead.

Taylor-Serrano was a fight.

Which prompted some of the best post fight quotes of all time by Cobb.

"I can do my sport no greater service." On being informed that commentator Howard Cosell had hung up his mike after being so appalled at the one-sidedness of the Holmes-Cobb fight

And...
