Hey Scott!

That Ryan is great! Also really like those original Linnett drawings - picked up a few some years ago - the fine detail is really impressive.

Staying with your no hitter theme, I really like this original art I picked up of Koufax from the Upper Deck Masterpieces set. They had some incredibly talented artists commissioned for those sets.

1) KREINDLERS

MANTLE-BEFORE GRAIG WAS FAMOUS

THE BABE- bubble gum by Conlon

CAPT. LOU-by Conlon

THE BABE-by Paul Thompson

SOSNAK

PETE ROSE -hits record with Ty Cobb. One of nicest Sosnaks I have seen. The colors just pop and the content is pretty good too.

WILLARD MULLIN

ROGER MARIS-DONE ON 1961 DURING RACE.

I did the research below and matched to the numbers/info within the sketch and determined that this was drawn before the game Wednesday, July 28 1961 during Maris' historic run for publication on Thursday the 29th, 1961. I think this exemplifies how negative the media was with Maris(including Mullin) and the pressure Maris had endured. Little did Mullin know that Maris would break Ruth's record that year, become MVP of the league, evolve into a great defenseman, win the world series and re-write history.

Default Baseball Illustrations

I found two works by noted paperback cover artist TONY KOKINOS.

He illustrated many New York magazines with baseball, football and hockey subjects.

He was know for this 1958 NFL Championship painting (Colts - Giants)

Thanks Marty!

Wow, that Koufax original art is impressive- very realistic!

Thanks again for allowing me to add the Vander Meer original art piece to my collection.

BTW, I think that Charles Linnett's original charcoal drawings are terrific. I really am proud to own one of them in my personal collection. I wish I owned the original Nolan Ryan in this collection.

Here are two variations of Charles Linnett's Nolan Ryan charcoal drawing prints from the mid 1970's. The first is the standard Linnett Ryan print. The 2nd is a exceedingly rare Pro77 sock variation of this print. Pro77 socks were a product sold at JC Penny's department store in Southern California. This regional variation of this print is ridiculously difficult to find for a Nolan Ryan collector. Here is mine that Nolan signed and personalized to me back in the day.

Scott/Paul, thank you for the pat on the back. Graig made my taste in art look better than it most likely is. All of these were commissioned off original type 1 photos.. The G-man made it happen and hit the G-spot dead center. I mean.. What? As far as the museum goes... How fricken fantastic would it be to go to an exhibit of all the highest end memorabilia? Marshall Fogel had his collection displayed in CO, I read, and they extended the stay because of the overwhelming demand. I wish I would have seen that and had such a collection. Perhaps if modern medicine allows me to extend my life by a couple hundred years, I might have a shot

Hey Scott!

Seeing that JVM drawing and knowing it found a great home always makes me smile!

I am going to have to go back and dig up my Linnett drawings - I can't remember who I have! Speaking of Linnett, I really like this picture I found on the 'interwebs' from his family's site. A great picture of the art in process!

My original art collection is limited to this page of Clemente comic art, the colored version is a copy of the page as it appeared in the published comic, and this 1960 Bill Veeck Bill by Olderman. The Clemente piece is much too large for my scanner hence the cropped appearance.

Thanks, Phil! Love your Koufax pen and ink drawings, as well! Kind of sad that the heyday of those artists and those types of drawings is probably 50 years gone now. I think back then almost every major newspaper either had their own or ran syndicated artitsts. More victims of technology, I suppose.

Default Been a while

I guess it's time for me to show my Kreindler as well.
Perhaps my favorite image of Lou.
Soon the basement space for my stuff will be done and I'll get to hanging this this and everything else. It'll look even better hung on the wall.

I don't think I've posted this one in this thread. Not sure why he's the Ace of Spades, when I can think of a few other words for him

Bump for a great thread and some great artists. I've shown the fist one before from a great artist and super guy by the name of Scott Pedley. It is now framed and just awesome!

And the second one just arrived in the mail from Scott Silvers. It is based on a woodcut from the 1860 Brooklyn Excelsior Club. It is incredible to say the least and huge at a size of 20" x 30". He has been a pleasure to work with and his dedication to his school is amazing as the proceeds from his paintings go fully to his school! Thank you so much Scott!!

Just received this oil painting to go along with my original Prang lithograph. It measures 20"x25"...can't wait to get it framed!

I got married last week and this was the present I gave to my groomsmen, all big baseball fans...

I framed a larger version of the portrait and gave each a set packaged with a stick of gum in it's own wrapper.

Now THAT is beyond bad@$$, Gary. Really awesome idea and beautiful execution (as always). And congrats - I joined the club a few months ago, too.

Thanks guys! I'm always reluctant to give away my art as presents because I feel like I'm forcing friends and family to hang it on their wall and the fact that my art is second nature to me and is easy. In reality everyone in my life loves to receive my art when I do give it as a present. I went back and forth between the portraits and a flask or something, but fortunately, my wife talked sense into me and told me to go ahead and do the drawings for my groomsmen. They went over great and made everyone happy. Guess that's why wives are called "the better half"...

George,
Hi...What's the story on your 20"x25" painting you posted the other day?....is that from the period? or modern?...is that a prang painting....or I should say...is it a painting Prang made prints of?....

Do you just collect baseball paintings...or other sports?..I got a football painting last year by Hy S. Watson...see below

Hi Carlton, that is a beautiful painting and great to see the associated publication!

The Prang painting is a modern reproduction but not a print...100% oil painting based on the original Prang lithograph. I had it done as a companion piece to the original Prang lithograph in my collection (the second one titled "A Stolen Base?"). I also collect some 19th century boxing items although very limited. Beyond these paintings, my idea of original art is woodcuts...it would be my dream to find an original baseball woodblock which was used in one of the 19th century publications. I have never seen one.

I've picked some of these up recently. They are trading card sized (2.5"x 3.5") and they are hand painted, not prints. I think the artist is very good. I actually have more on the way.

Those card size paintings keep showing up on one of my Campanella searches. Those look much nicer than the Campanella looks on eBay. If you get that one please let me know as I'd like to see a nice, detailed scan.

Those Edward Vela hand-painted cards are beautifully executed. Really love those... especially the impressionist style and interesting backgrounds.

Thanks for posting
