What do you think about this shotwell grange?
IMG_0976.PNG
A guy is offering me this card for $1,000. In fact, he is offering me the whole set for 2600. What do you think of the prices and while I know it's graded, you think it's real? Please advise. Last edited by orly57; 02-26-2016 at 08:37 PM. |

I don't know how to put up a pic. If you run shotwell grange on eBay completed listings you will find it didn't sell at 1,050. It's an ad back #9

Seems legit. Nice guy with great feedback. Just that these are rare and 2600 seems low. Though I was shocked the #9 didn't sell at 1050. Just want insight on legitimacy and value

I also feel like this card doesn't match the other cards in the set in terms of the color and card stock of the others. Maybe I'm paranoid.

Also, there is supposed to be a variation of this card that shows him in his Bears uniform. Since I don't know what a 1920's Bears uniform looked like, is this it? I've tried reading up on this and found a string on here from years ago, I can't find one completed sale on this card. I can't find much of anything on this card actually

How did this turn out? I would have liked to see this discussion on the football board - I think it would have got more attention there. In my opinion, I don't see much likelihood in someone counterfeiting this issue and if so doing so such that the cards present in low grade and then on top of that getting them into holders. In my opinion, the condition they are in combined with the fact they are graded actually makes them safer to buy.
Scams I recall: -getting doctored high end condition cards into holders either by fooling the TPG or fabricating/compromising a holder -counterfeiting a very rare high demand card like a Wagner, Ruth, etc. and distressing it in such a way that it looks old, then trying to sell it raw (estate sale, attic find, grandfather died, etc.) -counterfeiting a modern card to try to make it a "mint 10" or whatever like a Michael Jordan rookie But I know nothing about the set, I'm just saying in general I find it unlikely for these not to be legit. Jeff and some of the others would be more help - can you post a thread on the football board or maybe ask Leon to move this one if you still need help?
