Default Could use some help scanning Beckett Slabs

I could use some help or advice. I am recently signed up with Beckett for my authentications. When scanning my recent order I noticed that nasty flashback in my images. I only have this problem with the Beckett slabs.

Does anyone else have this issue and how can it be corrected. I use an HP 4050 scanner. Settings are 400 DPI everything else is defaults.

Thanks in advance

Stay Healthy everyone!!

Jim

(Note the scan shown here is 200 DPI, I could not upload a 400)

I doubt there's anything related to the scanner that you could do. It's simply the angle of the light reflecting off the plastic.

One suggestion may be scanning within the lid closed. Not sure if it will help, but that's what I do and I never had a problem with reflections. I also think the deep black border makes the scans look better.

If that doesn't work, you could also try "scanning" the card using a smartphone. I doubt you'll get the same resolution, but phones now do have that feature (it will look like a scan, not a photo, even though it is created with the camera).

Otherwise, perhaps something can be done in post-processing if you are familiar with image editing software.

Thanks for the reply. I scanned these with a double sided foam board as a backer. With the glare black or white really didn't matter. I have not tried editing post scan for fear that I could alter the card's appearance.

Bummer. Perhaps a different scanner would handle the glare differently, but it seems to me that there's going to be a reflection off of the interior plastic no matter what. I feel your pain... I've invested a ridiculous amount of time attempting to get the perfect scans of my collection.

I do think you will be able to avoid the glare by using your smartphone as a scanner. It's worth a shot. I believe Apple has a built-in scanner function in the Notes app. There are also apps called Adobe Scan and Office Lens that would do the trick. Try it - I promise it looks like a scan and not a photograph.

try rotating the card 45degrees (not 90deg) in the scan bed. That should reduce the amount of light reflecting straight back down to the scanner when the light hits the curves of the inner sleeve.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried angles every which way. It is the plastic sleeve in the holder. It is not 100% flat and the scanner light picks up every wrinkle.

I am willing to try another scanner if someone out there can recommend one that could avoid this issue. I currently use a basic canoscan for flat items and an HP 4050 for thicker items. I only have this issue with Beckett slabs.
