not baseball.

just a striking photo image of a lady.

One of those photos that tell a whole story (to me anyway) - so I had to buy it when I saw it.

A few currently posted elsewhere, a few not, but I am in a scan posting kind of mood lately so I'll include several.

Own this one, but not yet in my possession:

(Leon - HAALLLPPPP! Can you resize the middle one w/the three players? I know how to resize outside of Net 54, but not once I've uploaded. I don't want to upload a smaller version b/c I am running out of file space. Thx much. J)

anything for you J....

Just a test to see if you are paying attention, Barry! Kind of poetic, really.

Joe D., an interesting photo. Reminds me very much of some dags I have of my ancestors. Quite a solemn group they were!

Joann, that last photo you posted is pretty cool...do you know the date on it? Looks like she's swinging a Spalding Ring Bat, wearing quilted pants...could be 1890s.

Dan,

I'm not sure of date on that last one. I don't have it yet - it's on the way. When I get it I'll see if I can get a better scan or something.

I don't know what a ring bat is, but I thought they might be quilted pants. I couldn't tell for positive but that's what I thought too. I figure quilted pants for women is maybe 1900-1910 or even later, on the assumption that they were hand-me-downs from the guys who were wearing them in the 1890's. Shady logic, but it's all I got!

I'm waiting to see the hat. It looks like it's full-brim from the photo. We'll see.

J

PS - Thanks for the friendly edit Leon.

Joann, a ring bat is simply stated a bat that has rings painted on it - check out the bats that King Kelly is wielding in these photos...For an anonymous photo like yours having equipment like a ring bat in it greatly enhances the photos desirability. Of course it's already desirable because it's a woman baseball player, but the bat adds to the photo.

I can look at this image all day. I find it transfixing to see the faces so clearly and know they have all passed from this world, and wonder what their lives might have been...
The boy third from left looks IDENTICAL to me at the approx. same age, and I mean freaking identical. I was speechless when I saw it - I've never really seen anyone else in my life I thought looked all that much like I do, and it got me thinking about people who may have looked identical to ones'self at some point in human history. If it were possible to find a 'grown up' pic. of that boy I have no doubt I would be looking straight in the mirror. Weird weird weird.

Daniel

Bruce, Maybe it is Love Joy, Arizona? Actually Arizona did not become a state until 1912 but it was a thriving minning town..
