Default T206 Red HINDU cards.....SURVEY

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted

A favorite "toughie" for most T206 collectors, there are a possible 110 Subjects that were printed
with the Red HINDU back. This includes cards in the 350/460 Series, the 460-only Series, and the
Six Super Prints.

To date, we have confirmed only 45 different Red Hindu's from the T206 set.

I'll start with my two examples.....two real "characters" from the NY Giants.....let's see yours; and,
perhaps we'll have some new ones to add to the known list ?

I have a Magee with Bat, although i don't have a scan on me at the time.

I also know that a Doolan batting exists. If the owner of that one would like to trade/divest it, I would certainly be a very willing buyer.

There is a Heinie Wagner with a Red Hindu back somewhere in the world as I sold it about 10 years ago, for anyone keeping track. Can't remember if it is bat left or bat right.

DYLAN

Black Lenox backs are about twice as easy to find as the Red HINDU cards. Both these backs can theoretically
be found on 110 Subjects.

So far, no new Red HINDU's have been reported here. When I get the chance I'll post the 42 known Red HINDU's.

Wow really twice as tough? Its interesting that they sell for roughly the same amount, but i suppose it has to do with the fact that people can substitute a brown hindu whereas theres no cheaper lenox.

Dylan- kinda true, i guess...similiar situation with the BL 460 & Drum...but obviously the BL 460 is way scarcer.

PSA 1 red hindu = $400-$450
PSA 1 lenox = $250 -$300

IMO red hindu's carry more value because they are much rarer as Mike and others have stated, but I don't think they are roughly the same price. Even in PSA 1, Red hindu's are worth about $150 more than black lenox, a significant difference.

The same is true with Drum and BL 460. I think BL 460 is significantly scarcer and demands a significant premium over Drum.

My experience, as I just told Dylan, is that LENOX backs (while they are tough) are considerably more
available than Red HINDU.
The Survey that shows us only 42 Red HINDU's are confirmed, shows us about 80+ LENOX backs confirmed.

Also, I have to disagree with you regarding DRUM vs Broad Leaf 460. Granted BL 460 backs are very scarce,
but DRUM's are in higher demand....therefore, sell for comparable prices as the BL 460.

This higher demand is due to many, many more T206 collectors needing DRUM's to complete their basic "15
T-brand sub-set". And, they already have a Broad Leaf 350; therefore, don't go after the BL 460.

I've been selling T206's for over 25 years and I can tell you this is very true.It basically boils down to.......
the law of supply vs demand.

I can confirm a Johnson pitching (g/g-vg) that i saw at EPSCC a few years ago, but didn't buy because 800.00 was too much. The next sound you hear will be me kicking myself in the arse.

Marc- you know what i mean...

Drum is very tuff, but i have owned a few...Broad Leaf 460, on the other hand...it took me many many years to get one...

Ted- i understnad your thinking, and see your point.

i am working on a master back set, constantly upgrading...i have most of the tuffer ones, now just need to infill with some of the more common series/factories (all PSA mid-high grade).

now those darn brown old mills & lenox, are a different story...

Has anyone owned/documented a red hindu back with either of the two Tinkers generally found with 460 backs (Bat on and Bat off)?

Also same question with Chance Yellow and Batting?

They must be out there somewhere.

Thanks,

I expect a Red HINDU Chance (yellow portrait) to show up in due time. And, ditto for Matty (Dark cap).
Both these cards are in the Super Print category, of which there are SIX cards.

The other four....Chase (blue), Chase (dark cap), Cobb (red), and Evers (Chi-bat) have been confirmed
with Red HINDU backs.

At the last Philly Show I saw a couple of Red HINDU Gandil cards. It's very interesting how certain
ones show up in multiples.

We are going to have to delve into this recurring matter.

Odd thing about Gandil is I think he may show up with rarer backs with relative frequency (Gee, I'm an oxymoronist!) I have 3 Gandils, each with a different back -- Cycle, American Beauty and Tolstoi. I got them so long ago when collecting backs wasn't really a big deal, and I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get more than one.

Funny thing is when I had said:

I was refering to McGraw Portrait with Hat as I've seen at least 4 different ones.

Add McGraw Portrait with Hat to the red hindu list...

Are you sure that you really mean the McGraw (with cap) ?

I have never seen him on Red HINDU; and so far, he is not on my list of confirmed Red HINDU subjects.

But, if you are certain....I will add him to list.
