We currently have an interesting Thread going on in the Post-WWII Forum with the 1955 Doubleheaders.

Therefore, concurrently, I thought it would be cool to show off their predecessors......the T201 Mecca's.

I will start with my Walter Johnson....the GREATEST pitcher in BB history

I thank Net54er....Don Johnson for adding this card to my collection.

I know it is extremely wishful thinking to hope that anyone has seen an uncut sheet or panel of these. However, has anyone tried to figure out how they were ordered on one? I see quite a few that are miscut so as to show a small part of the adjacent card. My Baker, for instance, and probably the Johnson.

I had about 8-10 different catchers in the set when I first started collecting. I just have this lone type example left.

Well, I'd post my Johnson, since it's the only one I have, but it's not as nice as Ted's

Of course, each collector will legitimately make choices in accordance with his own preferences, however; encapsulating a t201, which is designed to be manipulated, makes as much sense to me as encapsulating a comic book.

Please consider this as only my first try to initiate a controversy in this otherwise peaceful thread.

Ted:

I'm shocked at you for posting all these off-topic threads. Who wants to talk about baseball cards here?

I was going to post a couple of my T201s, but you guys beat me to the ones I have (Johnson and Matty). Temporarily, I own this one too:

-Al

Hi-
I collected this set in the early 1990s (since sold) and I have never seen or heard of an uncut sheet. However, Tik and Tik had an amazing advertising poster for sale. I remember seeing it at the Wilmington MA Shriners show in the early 1990s. I believe he was looking for offers in the 2000.00 neighborhood, and I believe it sold for around that price later that year. If I remember correctly it had several T201s including Cobb on it. I would love to see a scan or a picture of it again if anyone has one.

Nice looking set Larry...congrats!!

On another note...does anyone have any ideas about why Cy Young isn't in the set?

Larry

Beautiful to see them all together. Hey, have you
ever tried to arrange them to see if you could figure
out how they might have been ordered on a sheet? (hint
hint )
By sky color, grass-line, etc. Not that you don't
have anything better to do.

...probably isn't in the set because he was in the twilight of his career. I don't know if there are any other Indians players besides Lajoie and Falkenberg, but the former was still playing very well and the latter was an up and coming pitcher with a better 1910 season than Young.

CYoung at age 44 was at the end of his career.....he pitched in 18 games in 1911. Eleven games with
Cleveland (4-5 record) and then they traded him to Boston July 1911. He pitched 7 games with a 3-4
record for Boston.

Mecca set was being designed and produced sometime in 1911, so they just decided not to include CY.

Thank you Ted and T206Collector.

I never really thought of Young not being in the set before, and it just hit me for some reason seeing Larry's set here. I thought it odd that Cy is in T202, T205 and T206, but not T201.

Come to think of it, it seems more odd that Cy wasn't in T201 (issued in 1911), but he is in T202 (issued in 1912). Maybe they thought he'd pick things back up with the trade to Boston? Then again, since T202 uses the T205 end panels, and Cy is in T205, maybe they just put him in the set since they already had the artwork.

Here are a couple of my favorites that was once owned
