Default Obak & Zeenut ID help, and scans needed

Thanks to Rhett, Roger Nisly, Larry & Rosi Moe, Andrew Jerome, T213, and Nashville baseball on providing tough scans earlier.

I am still looking for scans of these cards:

1917-20 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn; Doug Baird, Walt Cruise, Frank Snyder.
1908 Indianapolis PC; Carl Druhot, Perry Werden.
1910 Old Mill; Bad New Galloway (Shreveport), Morris,? (Texas Lg), Roy Radebaugh (series 1), Shields, ? (Atlantic Lg). Need help with first names too.
1915 Zeenut Milt Reed (Portland or Oakland)
1916 Zeenut John Vann (SLC or Oakland)
1904 Allegheny Jack Sutthoff
1887 Old Judge Bill Van Dyke (any)

Does anybody know the following?

Which Don Brown is the 1923 Cuban Billiken & Tomas Gutierez?
Which Don Brown is the 1922 & 1923 Zeenut?
Which Cooney is the 1924 Diaz Cig #80?
Which Parker is this 1928 Zeenut (team is Seattle scratched out)

Which Osteen is this Old Mill (team is Montgomery)?

Which Whelan player is the Old Mill (team is Wilson)?

Thanks

Default whelan wilson

There is no record of Whelan playing at Wilson in 1910.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...m.cgi?id=37403

Perhaps Old Mill misspelled Phelan.

Default champ osteen

Champ Osteen played at Montgomery in 1910.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=osteen001jam

I don't think that is an Obak card as Obak's

covered the PCL.

Roger

1910 Old Mill; Bad New Galloway (Shreveport), Morris,? (Texas Lg), Roy Radebaugh (series 1), Shields, ? (Atlantic Lg). Need help with first names too.John W. (Walter) Morris is the Series 3 guy, Shields is probably Charles Shields (never played in the majors) who was with Memphis in Southern League in 1908 & 1909 but this is NOT confirmed
1915 Zeenut Milt Reed (Portland or Oakland)
1916 Zeenut John Vann (SLC or Oakland)
1904 Allegheny Jack Sutthoff
1887 Old Judge Bill Van Dyke (any)

Does anybody know the following?

Which Don Brown is the 1923 Cuban Billiken & Tomas Gutierez? In my database I have him listed as Edward W. (Eddie) Brown--but I will have to confirm this
Which Don Brown is the 1922 & 1923 Zeenut? Donald Martin (Don) Brown, he never played in the major leagues
Which Cooney is the 1924 Diaz Cig #80? John Walter (Johnny) Cooney
Which Parker is this 1928 Zeenut (team is Seattle scratched out) Douglas Wooley (Dixie) Parker

Which Osteen is this Obak (team is Montgomery)? Not an obak card but the player is James Champlin Osteen

Which Whelan player is the Obak (team is Wilson)? You mean Old Mill here and the player is unknown to me. Martin J. (Marty) Phelan who did play with Wislon in 1910, "Phelan" is in the T210-7 set already w/ Rocky Mount (a team he never played with) so it could be him on both cards, but maybe someone else entirely. There was also a James Whalen that was playing in various outhern leagues up to 1908 (so he is another possiblilty)

Scans:

This isn't the Allegheny Sutthoff but it pictures him nonetheless...

Thanks to everybody for their replies.

I called the Osteen and Whelan cards Obaks, obviously they are Old Mills.

Rhett, if the Shields card is Charlie, he is the guy I'm looking for. I wonder if Charlie Shields (major leaguer) http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...hielch01.shtml
is the same guy as Charles Shields (minor leaguer) http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=shield001cha What are the odds they are different?

I also wonder if Jim Whelan http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...helaji01.shtml is the same guy as James Whalen http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=whalen001jam

The timelines add up. What do you think?

Thanks for the other input. Randy

Looking at the 2 different Charles Shields minor league stats I am inclined to say they are the same person

Major Leaguer Charles Jessamine Shields: http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=shield002cha
and Minor Leaguer Charles Shields: http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=shield001cha

You can see the continuity between the 1907 Memphis w/ the prior and the 1908-09 Memphis records w/ the latter. However, I'm not sure this is the right Shields (but probably is).

The Whelan/Whalen question is trickier b/c for them to be the same person he woul have had to theoretically start w/ the Georgia State League team as a 16 year old (not unheard of but that is pretty young). Again, I'm not sure this is the right guy that is pictured on the T210 (but probably is).

Edited to add: it should be added the player they have as J. F. Whalen playing for Junction city in 1909 is obviously James Francis (Jimmy) Whelan whom they have w/ Junction City in 1910.

Default Sunny Jack Sutthoff

I just found this forum. My grandfather is John (Sunny Jack) Sutthoff and I was thrilled to see the button - an image I hadn't seen previously. Do you have other images of Sutthoff?

Thanks.

Default Catherine

a gentle suggestion...

You might want to start a new thread, as man people who might be able to help you might otherwise not look at this thread, since your ask is a bit of a hijack/derail from the original thread purpose. There's a ton of great people here -- but start a new thread, and your odds of getting some scans will be much higher.

Cheers
