Default krak up

Troy,
Glad to see another Kraken victim. I see that you have chops since you've done so well against the Monster!

BP, please if you may add yet another Kraken point to my total.
This Marquard entered the gloom today. It looks like a nice round number of 160.

Cap, sweet Cobb pickup man, nice job on that one.

Brian, that Marquard is great bro. That was the e90 that got me started on the Kraken years ago. It's been slow going for me, but I'm slowly taking my hits at the beast when I can.

After Secret Santa, my count has been elevated to 1! Not a grand sum, but in the interest of completeness...

All it takes is one to be duly inscribed upon the Kraken rolls...now the next Kraken manuever would be to insinuate itself in your tag line along with the T201's etc.

Default Big Move

Kraken Krazies,
I made a big move this week.
Large gratitudes to board member William C. for working out a deal on 5 more cards equaling 19 (Hey Nineteen!) Kraken points!!

Brian, please boost your records up to 179 for me. It'll be tough sledding to get much further but I have a few more that wont be too bad. The Kraken wants us to quit. I'm not going to

With apologies for the lousy picture, it's still better than none.
Mitchell, Gibson, Stone, Willis and Clarke are now joining the others.

Brian, I think the picture shows that this gang of 5 is resting comfortably on the plush carpeting of their new home. Great pickups...Mitchell and the Clarke Pittsburgh are on the well established toughie list, and the Gibson back showing and Stone are ones that only recently gotten more attention, and a great Willis to boot, which is one of my favorite 'blast of colors' cards from the set.

The progenitor of this thread gets tagged for 179!

Brian

I added four more cards and am up to 124 thank's to Ed Hans but that's a long way from the two Brian's.

124 it is Larry. To join the Brians, you either have to legally change your name, or add more E90-1 cards to your collection.

I think the second choice is more fun and involves less paperwork.

That is a lot of different E90-1s. Good luck in the rest of the quest. Eventually I need to pick me up another one or two. Neat cards from the Monster of Caramel sets.

I will enter you in for 9 Kraken points. Let us know if any are rated higher than 1 point (see first post), and I will adjust the points accordingly.

Delivery coming on another big one. And a medium too.
I’m so close to my goal of 200 ish.

I’ve no desire to buy the Joe Jax or two Wagner cards. (The throwing Card is nearly as unattractive as the Cy Young Cleveland card that I got last year)
Maybe the batting pose some day...

Anywho,
I’ll scan them after they arrive and then ask our venerable scorekeeper for his mathematics...
The Kraken is showing some cracks as I inch my way upwards.

Default The Calamari Bake

I was able to add a baker's dozen points to the Calamari quest to beat the Kraken.

My scanner remains out of commission for a bit longer but I wanted to post my update, so I took a cell phone pic.

Not pictured, but revered is the Bob Bescher I picked up from Ed Hans. Yep, Ed Hans made me a great deal on the Bob Bescher E90-1 that I added to my stack. I sent small money, and Ed Hans sent a big 3 pt card.
Vote Ed Hans!

The pictured card is the 10 pointer. Almost no way to get this card for small money. But knocking Tris Speaker off the list is worth it.

Oh Tally Man, please put my total at 192. Its been a fun ride!

I, too, have completed the T206 monster. I find this set more challenging. Never seen so many "tough cards" in a relatively small set. Looking forward to the challenge.

Being a newbie to this set, why is Overall a tough card? Presently there are nine for sale on eBay.

One thing about this set to consider is that some of the "tough" cards can be deceiving. You do see a handful of tough cards for sale on occasion because people are constantly starting/stopping the pursuit of the set.
If you give up on a set, you may be able to break even quickly by liquidating the tougher cards like Upp/Mitchell/Sweeney or the aforementioned Overall.

9 of a card at any given time doesn't seem too populous. Sometimes that number might dip to 2.

And let's give this thread some credit for creating demand which may bring out both sellers and buyers :-)

Overall is a fringe 3 point card that mainly got in due to its past reputation as a tough card. Believe it or not I came up with the list without using 3rd party grading pop reports, but just off my observation, and suggestions of the Net54 community. If I were to redo list with a 2 point category, which at this point I am not going to do as it would cause too much disruption and would make it unwieldly for folks to keep track, I would put it in that grouping, as it definitely a card that is tougher to come by than the commons in the set.

Perhaps I will post a theoretical 2 point group at some point for the heck of it.

Brian

Thanks, Brian. I didn't know the history of the card.

Just got this little gem. It is a Lobert with three printers marks. Left side and tip are faint but right side is beautiful!

Have you figured out what your Kraken number is, and would you like to share it with us? By the way, cool Lobert.

Welcome to the Kraken show Tony...you have been officially entered upon the E-Monster tracker post. Sounds like you have made some good progress on the set of sets.

Default Big Ed

Finally got the scanner going.
This card got me to 198 Krakens, where I'll sit tight for a bit.

I always thought the Walsh E90-1 card could easily be a part of the E90-3 set, not only because Walsh is a Chicago White Sox player, but the art and throwing pose fits right in with the E90-3 set. Even his E90-3 card is very similar...check it out below.

Consider Brian 198 and eventually counting...

Man, haven't updated my Kraken number in a while. But five pickups this year (Wagner Throwing, Mike Mitchell, Matty, Baker, and Chance) add 23 points to my total. Bump to 160 requested. With 104 cards now, getting closer.

Here's the most recent pickup, Wagner, which came in today's mail.

23 points is quite a boost, and even if Wagner could only muster a 'who cares' look when tossing the ball, still an impressive pickup Anson. A card or two more and you will zoom past me.
