Default The “Buyers Group”

I’ve read through several posts regarding the issues involving PWCC and some of the auction houses. There is the occasional mention of The “Buyers Group”. I believe that Delorme was identified as one of them, but if I remember correctly he passed away. Does anyone know if any of the other “buyers” were ever identified?

I don't know that they were positively identified but there have been rumors swirling for awhile concerning some big names in the hobby. It will be interesting to see if the FBI investigation digs up some more of that dirt.

And here is the newest (youngest) baseball card in my collection. Have had it for a few years now and still enjoy it. Thanks again to the OBC guys for it.

That's a nice looking card for the technical grade. A nice collectible card to be enjoyed!

Is this "buyers group" the one that manipulated the market a few years ago?

A group of people that run up the prices on certain cards to insane prices. Then they sold theirs for way more than they were really worth. They also rarely if ever paid for the cards they used to inflate the prices.

It happens all the time and is easy to do. Just they went way overboard compared to how it is usually done. I refer to it as pump and dump.

The "buyers group" was a name given to the unnamed 5-20 buyers who scooped up a bunch of 1950s-60s Hall of Fame rookie cards in high grades intending to spike the market.

I think I named them the "buying group" actually.

I heard a handful came from a retirement home in Florida who fronted some capital to get it all started.

Doesn't hurt that I'm a Brooklyn Dodgers nut, but I think it's the greatest card in the hobby.

Cannot add anything to the Buyers Group but always appreciated the 53B Reese. Which is why I had to buy this one when I saw it.

Damn Chase that is cool. Wonder where the original resides and what that sucker would sell for???!!!

I have seen the photo used for his 1952 Berk Ross which is a pretty awesome diving pose. If it had been a higher quality card he'd have two of the all-time great Baseball cards!
