The one question I am unable to answer is one relating to computer problems. If Bob or anyone else can explain why this is happening, I would appreciate it. Mine works fine. |

I know I certainly pushed for it, but is anyone else unnerved by Barry's seamless jump to the 21st Century? From the last of the call-in auctions to a modernized logo and very well-done internet auction? What next? |

To Scott and others- we made a manual posting error on the E90-1 Jackson and the correct current bid is $6655. This is our first official day using the software and we are learning as we go along. I apologize for the inconvenience. |

Great auction Barry. Is it just my computer or do the scans of cards in the links to individual lots seem squished? This was true on both my home and office computers (both Macs, both viewed via Safari). The images seem too wide and not long enough. |

Jim B- my understanding is if your browser is Firefox there could be a problem with text and pictures bunched together. My web designer is working on it and it will not affect your ability to bid. And I recall you were one of the people who suggested I go to an internet auction, so you can't say I didn't listen |

Barry I like the way you make every lot single. I think now-a-days the larger groups do NOT do as good for a consignor. I wonder how these lots will end up? Wonder why some auction companies just want the HIGH per lot price when they are actually leaving money on the table (in my eyes). |

I am not a fan of mixing unrelated cards into a single lot, but I guess the consignor agreed to it. |

And I don't mean to "attack" Mastro by the above statement, as "legally" I probably did sign the big long contract that gives them the "right" to sell them in groups. |

Hal, that sucks a bit, sorry to hear that. I'm sure you signed your life away with that Mastro contract (by the way--ever notice how lawyers rarely read contracts that they are required to sign?). I'm surprised that they were grouped as it may impact on the total haul for a group of cards. Keep in mind, though, that Mastro probably knows what they're doing so there may be a good reason for the grouping. |

Hal, I think if the Mantle was an 8 I would agree 100% with you that there is a chance you'll lose some money on the sale -- because the Mantle 8 is almost a 3K card at that level and it would be silly for someone who wanted the Cepeda 8 to spend 3K more just to win the lot. Mastro grouped these cards together because they are all stars, all relatively similar in price (under a grand apiece). I think Mastro just saves space in its catalogue by grouping cards -- there really is no good reason on a 4 card lot like this not to just list them separately. |

I guess they probably save on shipping and handling by only having to package the cards one time instead of four different times to four different buyers. |

Personally I like to buy lots (sometimes) as I can do just what you said...and hopefully get what I want out of it a little cheaper (free if I am lucky) by selling the others. I made the E90-3 Gandil in the other thread for free by buying a group and selling the rest......regards |

I am not quite sure how to explain it but I do think that lots will sometimes go for more than singles....I know there are some lots I have won that I ended up selling and the singles sold for less than I paid for the lot. One Old Judge group I split with a board member comes instantly to mind. Because I have the mindset that I can maybe get what I want out of a lot cheaper sometimes I think I overpay.....I hope that makes sense.....regards |

Regarding whether or not a group lot has break value depends on what you pay for it. Leon and I split that Old Judge lot and we may have simply overestimated it. In general, if you do your homework you should be able to get a large group of cards for around 75-80% of break value. Doesn't leave a lot of room for error, but it's pretty competitive out there. |

Myself and three other Board Members came together to bid on a near complete Collins McCarthy set. We did every kind of creative new math you can imagine and we could never get close to the individual cards equaling what the set ultimately went for. I have other experience with multi-card lots and I never seem to be able come out ahead. I try to wait for individual cards. |

Cat- I think a complete or near complete set will sell closer to retail than a large lot of mismatched cards. |

Hal, since i always figure a company like Mastro will be forced to make lots out of the lower dollar cards why not only consign your blazers to Mastro and use ebay or some alterior selling format to move stuff like Cepeda rookie cards, mid grade Mantles, etc? |
