Default Dolphins QB

I would rather have Earl Morral than Jay Cutler.

Add David Woodley, Don Strock, Bernie Kosar, Damon Huard, AJ Feeley, Jay Fiedler and almost any other of the 32 guys that have stood behind center for the Fins. Maybe not Cleo Lemon.

I'm glad that i now root for the Saints even ahead of the team I grew up loving in the early 70's.

That's saying something since Earl is dead.

Cutler can at least throw the ball with some accuracy, compared to the other options out there, the Fish could have done far worse. If he is there all year, they might be in trouble. But I've often thought half Cutler's problem in Chicago was the quality of his O line was so poor that he was often rushed, often hurt and thus threw more INT's than he might've otherwise.

Default Come Back Earl!

The fins line doesn't really take the "offensive" out of offense line discussion either.

But Jay does have a stronger arm than Cleo Lemon.

Anyway, I suppose they could have done worse. I just never saw what made NFL GM's pay that man huge contract after huge contract. He's far from the only player ever compensated above his ability . He might be passable but he's no Earl "Immortal" Morral.

Cutler's no superstar, but he has a 104 career approximate value (NFL saber stat kinda similar to WAR) which isn't super (for example Manning is first with 271, Favre 2nd with 255 and Rice 3rd with 250) so he's ranked somewhere in the 300's. But it's not a terrible amount of value for 139 career games. Probably a tic or two above dead avg.

I always thought from afar and the occasional TV game that he was a pretty good quarterback, who for whatever reason was not a good fit with his team.

Cutler's record against Green Bay was abysmal. (2-12)

The Packers will sorely miss him in a Bears uniform.

He's gone 0-3 against the Patriots, including a 41-7 drubbing at the hands of Matt Cassel. Looking forward to playing him twice this year.

Just read this on NBC Sports Pro Football Talk...

"Adam Gase’s bond with Jay Cutler got him to sign with Dolphins for cheap"

I didn't realize $10M + $3M incentives was cheap for a guy with a mediocre NFL career who has been retired.

It does make me wonder though - what was Fox paying him?

Right, and Matt Moore has literally sacrificed his life for this Dolphins team.

To me, Cutler is a poor man's Phillip Rivers. Decent enough to be a starting QB on bad teams, may put up decent stats, but will never lead their team to a Super Bowl victory.
