Default Difference between SGC flips

How can you tell the difference between old SGC flips and the new ones? I am sure has been discussed before and is elementary, but I would appreciate the info.

damian

the older flips do not have the grade in 1 thru 10 form as well as the 1 thru 100

the older flips just have the 1 thru 100

I am almost positive that this is the way to tell.

at a point in time before SGC went to the split-point grading system [e.g. 1-10], the head grader was responsible for some notable errors - most notably the Doyle SGC debacle involving Alan Rosen and Keith Olbermann.

All that being said - SGC was definitely more lenient those days in terms of centering. If nothing else - the Merkle era flips have a green "SGC" in the middle of the card flip. There is an SGC 96 Aaron rookie on Ebay that is an example of a flip from this era. The important thing to note is that SGC does not necessarily honor those flips today. In other words, if you took one of those flips and resubmitted it to SGC today to get it put into a split-grade holder - there is a definite chance that the card will not grade as high as it originally did.

The oldest flips actually have SBC as the company name with a banner. You rarely see these anymore. SBC used a 1-100 point scale, but it was not the same as it is today. See first link below for an example.

The original SGC flips used the banner (white/gray instead of Green) from the SBC cards and the 100 point scale as we know it today. Seen very rarely, but much more often than the SBC flips. Shown in second link, 62 Clemente card in upper left corner.

The flipped then changed from the banner to look how we know it today (Green), but still only used the 1-100 point scale. Still see these somewhat commonly. Shown in second link, 62 Banks card next to the Clemente.

Finally, the flip as we know it today, became the split scale version. Shown in second link, 62 Killebrew in upper right hand corner.

So to my knowledge, there are 4 version in the complete history of the flip. I think the first is not included in the population reports. The other three are included.

it may well be that all "professional" grading entities did not record a good number of early graded cards..however my in depth research and magna ivy sources have managed to dileniate this data and format it into a whole new "true" population report.......we are actively working to set a fair market price for this information..but it ain't gonna be cheao..

...heck.. we might even make a video.

Two points:
1) PSA kept population records from the beginning. I am not sure about SGC, but I would guess they did since they started after PSA.
2) Wasn't there a period when the flip on SGC cards just said "SG" in the middle?

1. I believe their computer keeps pop records.
2. Among my 1,000+ hours of master boards and audience tapes, I have many nice Dark Stars.
