Default My "restorations"

I'm kind of a low end collector. I have a ton of NY and SF Giants stuff, but most of it is not overly valuable. I'm not opposed to "improving" something I buy. Don't worry "purists," my collection is for my enjoyment only and will never be sold.

Here's some stuff I've "restored," changed or improved. A Braves Blatz display, changed to be a Giants piece. A dyed pennant. A bleached pennant. A generic Champs bobber made into a Giants bobber. A repaired mini bobber. Bobby Bonds' travel suitcase. A Quinco bank, changed into a Utah Utes piece. A severely cracked Madison Bumgarner gamer. I'm sure I have more stuff I've messed with. Anyone else do this kind of sacrilege?

Wow, that is awesome!
I have a little umpire guy I got in a lot of cards I bought once who was destroyed, and I "fixed" him.

Very cool!

Piece looked great until you added "UTES" and ruined the whole piece!

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a BYU Grad

ALSO FULL DISCLOSURE: You did a great job on the pieces!

I'll try not to hold that against you. It won't be easy.

Got any plans of beating the Utes, anytime soon?

I once put a 1940's A's pennant in the washer on gentle with "woolite". I got out a handful of wool!

Here are the little guys I once found in a lot of cards I bought from some guy.
My buddy who was with me just said trash them, they can't be salvaged. But I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I still have the other two half finished, and I will try and get to them when I finally find some time.

Great job! Did you have to make the lower legs or did you have the piece(s)?

Thanks. I am in no way handy at all, so I was pretty happy with how he came out. I hated to throw them in the trash.

I had his feet, so I had to sort of reconstruct the lower legs, and then attach them to the feet.

The other two are mostly reconstructed, but when I get some time, I want to smooth out the divots, and repaint them. I was thinking of repainting them as little Yankees and Red Sox guys. Maybe I can find some time this summer.

Beautifully executed! That tremendous effort demonstrates a true love for the hobby... much more so than buying and flipping slabs. Nice work!

The picture of my Blatz didplay is a liitle old. I have since put some Giants colors on the safe runner and Dodgers colors on the too late catcher.

^^^^ The comments are hilarious!

Screwball and Crybaby used to be Dodger dolls. The Giants versions are literally impossible to find. The Dodgers came in 7 versions but I have only ever seen the Giants in the two I "transformed" and Grouchy (middle). At the time I repainted these, I was coming off cancer chemo. Not the best time to do it, because the chemo had destroyed the nerves in my hands. I'm glad to say, those nerves eventually repaired themselves. I probably should have waited until I had a steadier hand.

Well, they came out pretty nice anyway.

I really like seeing the before pics, it's one thing to get fussy about changes, but when someone starts with what's basically a box of shrapnel, or something way too rusty or incomplete to really be "right" again, It's pretty cool to see something brought back.

I'm nowhere near an expert, but you may have painted them at a great time. I'm thinking the practice with small details may have helped the rehab. (But I literally have no qualifications in that stuff at all so... )

A guy I worked with broke his wrist, and was getting PT after. They thought he was doing great for someone who was 70, he didn't. Eventually got back more motion than they thought he would. How? He drilled a hundred holes in a board and screwed screws in and out of it all day while he was watching TV.
