I know I posted this 2005 Sammy Sosa game used helmet in the past but I recently had it signed via a private signing he did earlier in the month & I thought it came out nicely:

Great jersey Mark! I’ve got to get a home and road flannel one of these days.

Default 1960-1963 Orioles Scrapbook Hand Cut Baltimore News Post - Trade

Greetings. I have about 30 extra 1961 and 16 or so 1962 Orioles Baltimore News Post (BNP) scrapbook cards. The downside of my extra scrapbook cards is they are glued on a sheet of construction paper back to back. I did my best to cut around them so they can appear in a binder and you can see both sides. I tried to separate one but damaged the card. I am not interested in selling. I would prefer to trade for missing 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963 BNP. I am short 1 for 61, 5 and 13 for 1962 and 1963, respectively. I am missing 50 for 1960.

Here is my list of shortages…send me your list if interested along with your list of extras willing to trade.

1960 - 10 on hand so missing 50 (let me know if you have any…can provide list)
1961 - missing Hal Brown
1962 - missing Cosgrove, Hall, Ward and Williams
1963 - missing Aparico, Barber, Bertania, Breechen, Brown, Etch, Hall, D. Johnson, Lau, McNally, Narum, Brooks, Starrette

Email me at charles.strite@yahoo.com if interested in trading.

I don't believe I shared this back in 2020 but what reminded me of it was the other day was the 26th anniversary of the event.

Sachio Kinugasa of the Hiroshima Karp (1965-1977) held the "world" record for most consecutive games played at 2215 & Cal was set to pass that milestone in Kansas City during a weekend series.

My buddy and I flew out to it (Kinugasa was in attendance as well) & during the record breaking game, I was able to obtain a foul ball that Chris Hoiles hit (which is a story in itself).

Another story, but post game we were fortunate to take a shuttle van back to the hotel with Kinugasa & I asked him to sign the ball...He accommodated me by signing it on the sweet spot and added 2215 underneath.

A couple years later I had Cal sign it and asked that he add "2216" underneath as well.

While I've seen baseballs signed by both, I've never seen one that was actually used in that game (as a side note Mr. Kinugasa unfortunately passed away in 2018):

Default Baltimore Orioles Stickers

Good afternoon. I think shared a post on old Oriole stickers in the past. Recently, I found one that has eluded me for a few years. Just found this week, actually...you'll see below the 19 in sticker published back in 1961 ("It can be done in 1961"). I have seen a picture with the Oriole's manager (Paul Richards) holding the sticker but never the sticker itself. I will likly frame this one. Also, you see many other stickers. I have a few others but here are the ones displayed together. I am always looking for others. If anyone has any extra collecting dust, keep me in mind. Enjoy!

Default Another Oriole hits for the cycle

Here's an addition to post #265, which highlighted the five Orioles that have hit for the cycle in O's history. Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr, Aubrey Huff, Felix Pie and Jonathan Villar.

You can add Austin Hays to that list. It took Hays only 6 innings last night to complete the feat, in the Orioles rain shortened win over the Nationals.

Congrats Austin. One of the really nice guys at spring training.

Alan:

You are a correct in saying that Hays is a nice guy...

Here is my complete ticket from Cal's cycle game back in '84 (second Oriole to do so):

I believe someone on this thread has a stub from Brooks' cycle game if memory serves me right.

Nice ticket. In this day and age of paperless tickets, gems like that are going to be harder and harder to find.

Alan: you're right about that! It's probably been three years since I've used a paper ticket to get into Camden Yards...

34 years ago today was the game (at Fenway) when Cal played in his 1000th consecutive game (I believe Alan was there)......Here is their original lineup card that Saturday afternoon; signed by manager Frank Robinson (Cal homered as well in a losing cause)....I taped the game off the radio on a cassette tape that I need to locate one of these days

we all read yesterday about it being Bobby Bonilla Day, but did you know that the Orioles owe him $500k annually as well (through 2028 I believe)? Here are a couple Oriole related Bobby Bo items from my collection:

Default Memorial Stadium Aisle Markers

Hi. Does anyone have any details on the Memorial Stadium aisle markers? I have 3 (see below). Tried to clean them up and had pretty good luck. I have numbers 3, 4 and 8. I noticed the number 3 is a bit thicker than the the the other two (4 and 8). It is my understanding that the thicker markers were used with the upperdeck.

Also, does anyone know how high the numbers go? I heard 32.

Thanks.

Charlie

Default 1983 ASA Brooks Robinson sets

Looking for some help with the 1983 ASA (Authenic Sports Autograph) set. Most of you are probably familiar with the 12 card set of Brooks Robinson they printed in 1983. They also did sets of other HOFers including Frank Robinson.

The sets came in two versions, red and green, both limited to 2000 sets. Card #1 in each set was autographed by Brooks.

My question... In the process of organizing a few dupes, I came across two different backs for card #10 in the red set. One card has a solid red border on back, while the other has a white border and thinner red border inside. All of my other cards, including the green set all have the solid red or green style border. I found a couple of other white border cards listed on eBay, but all of them are card #10.

Does anyone know the story behind the variation and whether or not all the red set cards can be found in both styles?

Thanks guys for any info...

If anyone is working on the set, I have dupes of #1, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 from the red set. All solid red borders.

With all the smart people on here (of course I’m excluded from that group) have to know which aisle markers are out there.

Default Dwight Smith Sr

I just got a text from Bill Haelig that another ex-Oriole has died. Dwight Smith Sr passed away at age 58. He spent most of his career with the Cubs.

Dwight played 28 games and batted .311 for the Orioles in 1994.

Dwight's son, Dwight Smith Jr, also played for the Orioles in 2019-2020. I believe that along with the Ripkens and the Raines, they are the only father/son combos to wear the O's uniform at the major league level. There have been other former Orioles sons to play in the organization at the minor league level. Remind me if I'm forgetting someone.

RIP Dwight

Two more father/son sets that come to mind are:

-Bob/Terry Kennedy
-John O'Donoghue/John O'Donoghue

Interestingly, when the younger O'Donoghue made the majors I wrote him a letter asking him to sign an index card and to add Jr. to his name & when he responded he included a note that he wasn't a Jr. (I think it had something to do with their middle names or something)....

Of course... How could I forget. That's what happens when you post something in 90+ degree weather. And I'm in Maine, not Florida.

I saw that Will Clark had his #22 retired by the SF Giants last evening. When Will got to the Orioles in 2000, he wore #12 then switched to #23 the next season (his final one)..Here is his locker nameplate from the '01 season:

Default Locker name plate - Clark

Love the locker name plates. I have a Mullins. Saw a few obscure player locker name plates at the game used store at Camden Yards recently. Thanks for sharing!

Yes I do! This one came out of Milwaukee's County Stadium & what I like about them is that the lettering/numbering is hand painted:

Here is a press photo from 1973 showing examples of them in the background:

I thought so. Now get that thing framed and on the wall (or display as is which would be cool as well). Do you have a Brooksie shrine alongside your Callection?!?

I was offered one a few years ago from the collection of Ted P., but it was just hand written and wasn’t to exciting at the time.

Default More Cal Ripken Japanese Magazines

Good afternoon,

I was recently able to pick up some more Japanese magazines with Cal on the cover. The entirety of the Cal retirement one is in Japanese but I'd love to know what Sachio Kinugasa said in the article about him.

Mike:

This must be Japanese magazine week lol....Please lmk if you ever run across another copy of that Cal Jr. Retirement publication...

Purchased this AIG Insurance Company (May 1997) Japanese magazine off eBay just last week. He was a spokesperson for them that year & I have a couple promotional phone cards, posters, etc. from that relationship, but this was the first time I saw this neat company publication:

Love the foreign magazines; thanks for posting.

I always wonder how many are out there that we don’t know about. I know I’m missing a HIT magazine of Brooks from I think ‘71, but are there any others out there…

Here are a couple other jackets that I don't believe I've posted previously...

Cal Ripken Sr. from c1991:

Bill Ripken Charlotte Orioles from 1986 (Bill & Cal Jr. would often ID their items by writing RIP on them):

Default 1985 Orioles vs. Hagerstown Suns program

Good morning,

I recently picked up at a flea market this program from when the Orioles played their then-affiliate Hagerstown Suns in 1985. It has been signed by Rick Dempsey and Dennis Martinez. Nice photos of Cal and Eddie are in the program as well.

Default August Pickups

I haven't really posted much over the summer. I've been busy with projects around the house, while home in Maine, and a son getting married. Collecting has been a bit slow and kind of took a back seat. With the Orioles going electronic on many items, my collecting options have been limited.

However, August has turned out to be a banner month.

First, I've been able to finish two of my Topps Venezuelan Orioles teams sets, picking up the 1966 Venezuelan Jim Palmer and the 1968 Venezuelan Curt Blefary. I've now been able to to finish the 1964, 1966 and 1968 sets in fairly nice condition. I'm picky about no crease, paper loss and strong corners, so I end up passing on a lot of them. Still need the 1967 Venezuelan Dave McNally to finish up the 1967 set. I'm about half done on the 1960 and 1962 sets, but haven't started the 1959 set yet.

Second, most of you know my love of Orioles programs, especially the odd ones. I some times go months without finding anything new, but August brought me three gems. At least in my mind... Gems.

Early Orioles spring training programs are tough enough, but finding programs from neutral sites just before the regular season starts are near impossible.

Lastly,

1959 Vancouver Mounties spring training program from Yuma, AZ

Brooks played briefly for Vancouver in 1959, but wasn't on the spring training roster. Plenty of other major leaguers were though.

Please keep me in mind if anyone comes across any O's odd ball programs. I'll pay top prices for them.

Default Armour Meats Display with Mail In Offer for Facsimile Ball with Brooks

Here is one you do not see very often from Armour Meats, which I believe is from the 1970s. The display measures 13.5 In by 10 In. It has two identical sides with a basedball in the middle wrapped in cellophane. Not sure but maybe it was hung from a ceiling and you could see it from different sides. There are no holes in it though. Both sides are the same. Anyway, 4 HoF players are included on the facsimile ball you would mail in for with a $1. I have never seen this before. Has anyone seen it and can you tell me the year? Shared with another group but thought to share here as well.

Thank you and happy collecting.
