Default Labels?

Don,

The labels look a bit "off". Do you think it is just the way you photographed them? Or maybe they were in the sun?

Cool collection as always!

Peace, Mike

PS Always nice to have Walter Johnson's grandson comment right after you! Hey Hank!

How timely Don! As that new service just rolled out! Ugh! Great find as always! Thanks for sharing and stay safe up there in Maine during these crazy times.

Peace, Mike

Something beside being old had to have caused those flips to discolor. I have 100's and 100's of SGC cards that were graded well over 10 years ago and the flips look the same as the day there were graded.

Yeah, I love these. And agree those flips looks very peculiar to me. Among other things, they all look the same to me. Why would a flip (made a few years ago) look 10x dirtier than a card made 100 years old? Odd.

Old SGC flips will discolor like that if they are left out exposed to sunlight. I've dealt with a handful of them, and they definitely seem to be a result of being left out to the sun for years. Could be on display or something like that. The cards may or may not have faded at all, but the flips look like crap.

Default well

I can tell you from personal experience that those labels faded from exposure to light. I've had a few in my collection and reviewed others. I've also seen examples sold on feeBay. It would be natural to assume the associated cards would have been affected to some degree as well, whether immediately discernible or not. Photo cards and chromo cards would be most susceptible. Hard to tell what goes on in a casket - chemicals in the plastics and unknown reactions with the cards may eventually render the contents valueless or not. Light is paper's enemy - primarily a reaction with chlorine and other particulates in air. Obviously some conjecture here on my part as I just glanced at a few pix. Hopefully if there's a problem with cardboard tombs - my graded cards won't turn to dust in the next 25 years or so.

Default thought I'd add

when I was "typing" base ball cards in the early 90's I bought one of the "return..." box fronts with the Babe on it. It was quite creased with some recognizable battle fatigue. Bought it in a Political Gallery auction and was quite pleased despite the stiff price just short of 300.00 I believe. Few years later at least a half dozen clean examples and a couple of boxes surfaced. Then with the advent of eBay more came to market. My scarce type had suffered a devaluation :-) Don't let me get started with the JuJu Drums......

Thanks I will be sending to SGC--just debating, I may use the $100 deal, otherwise, will not get them for 3 months

You might want to check with SGC to see whether reslabbing falls in the same price range as a newly graded card.
Maybe it's cheaper and you don't have to wait forever.

Nice cards!
