O/T Twins celebration of 100th anniversary of 1924 World Series
I had a magical day Sunday in Minneapolis:
From the Twins website: You'll need to enlarge to full screen and engage the sound at lower left. First some history, then the live part kicks in about halfway through. The Twins really did this right, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. https://www.mlb.com/twins/video/twin...ge_video-share I got to hang with one of my childhood heroes, JIm Kaat, for several hours yesterday, and a nicer man you will never meet. Jim, who was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame recently (284 wins, 16 Gold Gloves, 25 years in the major leagues—what took them so long?), was a member of my beloved 1960 Washington Senators who moved to Minnesota the following year. I still have PTSD from that experience as a 14 year-old, but a lot of healing took place yesterday. |

Jim Kaat
Someone asked Kaat. about pitch counts and he said the only thing they counted when he played was if you scored one more run than the other team.
Henry, that's just a wonderful photo. |

Thanks, Michael, I agree, taken by my friend Bruce Adams. That's a great quote from Jim!

Great post!
Hi Hank,
What a great post this is! Congrats on being able to be an active participant in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of their 1st World Series in 1924. WaJo did your family proud. Here is Senators Ossie Bluege's personal copy of a team photo that was taken in 1924 outside the White House. The 1924 World Champion Washington Senators were the 1st team to be invited to the White House. Last edited by Scott Garner; 08-17-2024 at 10:33 AM. |

Excellent book recently came out called Team of Destiny: Walter Johnson, Clark Griffith, Bucky Harris and the 1924 Washington Senators by Gary Sarnoff.
