Default Candidate for the Most Airbrushing on a Card

What were they thinking? JollyElm probably has a word for this

72. Dreadshot
A Topps card featuring basically nothing but the noggin of the ballplayer.

See also: Nomad Hatter - a card showing a player on his ‘new’ team, sporting a badly airbrushed cap.

Looks like he's wearing a helmet, not a cap.

Here's a couple of other egregiously airbrushed cards.

Yeah 71 is an obvious candidate. Card #666.

Seems like the A’s got airbrushed a bunch. Helmet and jersey. Plus, why the red?

That '71 Dick Williams could be a Topps Project 2020 card.

EDIT to add: So could the '77 Tommy Helms.

If you think the 1971 Dick Williams has some bad airbrushing, check out his 1986 Topps Traded!

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Topps really liked ridiculous airbrushing of Dick Williams

Just about all the 77 Blue Jays and Mariners cards are bad. Couldn’t keep up with the expansion teams I guess.

I don't know if it's airbrushing, but the 1957 Topps Mantle has some guy in the background that's been "heavily redacted".

What's amazing to me is that Bowman had no trouble with adjusting to players changing teams — way before Photoshop. It seems like the Topps art department was made up of third graders.

How can everyone's favorite not be this one!

Lazy cover of the Indians cap and an airbrushed pinstripe jersey that looks like a barber's cape on him, lol. A classic.

In fairness, it was MOST airbrushing, although that hair makes this card so epic. Without the mouse ears, this card is lost in the mundane.

When I saw the title of the thread my first thought was “someone has to post the 1978 Greg Minton” for some reason that card has always creeped me out!

I'm not entirely sure this is airbrushed (I think it is), but it's one of my favorite odd cards.

Some really great cards in here.

Some claim there are variants of the 57 Mantle with different degrees of the ghost guy. But I have never been able to spot one that I thought was significantly different from the one I have

It's funny, when I went about creating a 'Cards That Never Were' for Reggie on the Orioles, I made sure to mirror the awfulness of the large-hat Topps airbrushing academy...

You do realize that everything but the hair is airbrushed? Gamble had an Indians jersey on for the actual pic.

Sure, but I'd include his face in the non-airbrushed camp as well.

There are so many out there, but the one that always seems to make me cringe the most is Rich McKinney, 1973:

I think the footballs tend to have the most. Some of them are ridiculous.

Brockington was a Packer in 1971, when he debuted. In his first series 1972 card, they used an unaltered photo. In the third series, they edited the same exact photo, atrociously.
