Default Trout - Angels Win More Without Him

With Trout this year the Angels are 17-19 in his 36 games and 14-13 when he doesn't appear in a game. So how does WAR figure this out. Is Trout a Negative WAR, since his replacements are winning more games than him ?

I still think WAR is fake lol. How can a stat be a stat when noone knows how its calculated? I like .ops as for advanced stats but WAR never worked for me.

The same individuals who created these advanced stats are the individuals who have ruined how the game is played. Strategic hitting is gone. Base running is abysmal. Steals and bunts are extinct. Strikeouts are at historic highs. Batting average is at historic lows. As far as I'm concerned, screw MIT and advanced metrics.

The Simpsons was on to something when they said Bill James made baseball as much fun as doing taxes.

Despite the word "Wins" in Wins Above Replacement, the outcome of games is not used in any of the calculations for WAR.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wins_A...sition_players

Think of it this way, a team could go 0-162, score say... 10 runs minimum in every single game, and most of their players will have top WAR in the entire league.

Unless there is some extra information not presented in the wikipedia page, this formula seems to work under the assumption that players who score a lot of runs are on teams that score a lot of runs and thus, win a lot of games.

This is one reason I think Bill James’ win shares was a better attempt at the concept, though I don’t think any formula is going to produce a very accurate “everything” stat.
