Default Jim Irsay and the burden of the white billionaire

I saw this news about Jim Irsay's white billionaire problem, and I'm trying to decide if (i) he has dementia, (ii) he was super drunk, super high or both when he said it, or (iii) he's just plain dumb.

I mean, I know NFL owners have a history of saying or doing weird, ill advised things, but I'd have to think that Irsay's comments are up there in the pantheon.

And V. He's seen how many Americans are willing to believe anything, no matter how insane, as long as it comes out of the mouth of an obscenely wealthy person.

I'm not sure I've heard from anyone that their arrest was fair and non-prejudicial in any way. That's not dementia, that's just self-serving narrative pretty much everyone does and oft believes when it comes to themselves. Almost everyone plays a victim when accused.

Billionaires are pretty unpopular among the general population. I'm sure it's happened at some point where being a billionaire has worked against someone when confronted by a lowly cop. I doubt that's what happened here or he wasn't drunk

Fair points. I guess I'm surprised that a guy who can afford the best media training in the world would somehow manage to respond in a way that highlights not only his race, but also his immense wealth, as bases for his unfair persecution. So he manages to potentially alienate both his players (large black population) and his fan base (large non-wealthy population). It's befuddling, but then again, I'm not a white billionaire myself.

I'm guessing the victim narrative that is so popular in this country has no limits.

Well, as expected, Jim Irsay is getting pilloried. I'm not a huge fan of Stephen A, but his (and his fellow talking heads') take down of Irsay on First Take was spot on. And, of course, Jim Irsay can't back down and is threatening to sue First Take. This is a comic level of commercial stupidity.

The underdog billionaire strikes again.

We’ll never know their burden.

There is no lower life form than NFL owners...well, within the sports world anyway.
