Default Unique and obscure Pieces tied to your favorite players.

Every year Joe G, Red, Country and reds brother Joe would head to Herman MO for a hunting trip. They stopped at the same shop every year. The shop keeper seemingly was a cards fan and took a few snaps, one of red taken in 1946 and one of Enos taken in 1947. And got them all to sign a notebook page. Possibly somebody with knowledge of the area could give ever more insight of the shop.
Also pictured is Reds hunting license from 1990! And a hunting camp photo from 1963.
These unique items are absolutely my favorite kinds of things to collect.

Thanks to everyone who's shown and allowed me to acquire some amazing photos and different pieces of Red (and a few other great players). You know who you great folks are! I plan to share more in the future.

I would also like to invite others to share your unique pieces and stories.

Thanks for reading,
Lucas

A mini poster advertising Johnny Bench Day November 2, 1968, in Binger Oklahoma. Also added a couple of spring training 1968 vintage snapshots.

I've shown/posted this quite a few times here, Lucas, but I'm unsure if you have seen it based on your join date?

A pic of my Uncle Sam with his friend Norm and Dizzy Trout with Mickey Mantle at the 1958 World Series.

I have searched through the forums past posts and looked through quite a few great threads. But to see it all I think may take years lol.
I haven't seen your photo yet.

Great piece of family history! I love it.

Sweet poster. Can't imagine many of those are floating around. And the snaps have a very family feel to them. Any reds fan would be wowed! Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed it.

My Uncle Sam and Aunt Eileen lived in Pontiac Michigan so a drive to Milwaukee wasn't terribly far for him.
Both have been gone for many years now but I will always be curious how Uncle Sam and Dizzy Trout became friends?
I found the original photo, or what I believe is the original photo, in a book she had sent along with the picture.
Uncle Sam passed before Aunt Eileen so she sent some items home to me when my mother and father visited her before she moved to California to live with her daughter.
Her son in law was James D Buchanan who was the producer/writer for Charlie Angel's and a few other shows over the years so I was happy she was able to live her remaining years in comfort and warmth.

Here's a couple snapshots of Minnie Minoso from spring training, 1950, in Tucson, AZ. In the second one, he's pictured with Larry Doby and Luke Easter. The three roomed together away offsite due to segregation.

I was able to acquire these from the Albert Pujols Family Foundation. It early in the 2006 baseball season and Albert was absolutely on fire. His foundation announced that they would be selling 10 (I think) signed pair of game used batting gloves from the 2005 season. I was online waiting for the exact moment they went on sale and made the purchase. My payment went through but they were sold out. I can't remember if I made the phone call or I received a phone call....but I was able to talk to Todd Perry, the head of his foundation and he apologized that I was number 11 and that they only had 10 pair. Since my payment went through he promised me that in a few days he would talk to Albert and he would get me a pair but it would have to be from 2006. That was not a problem at all because he actually alluded that the gloves would be from early in 2006. Albert Pujols just happened to break the all time April home run record with 14. These gloves are most likely from April 2006.

I was able to match the exact same style and slightly possibly the same gloves on his 2007 Topps card. I designed the display and had it made. It hangs in our bedroom.

I have a few items I guess I would consider unique. I suppose this was the most fun in terms of significance and the necessary research. I purchased a collection of slides shot by a Pittsburgh based amateur photographer between 1970 and 1972. Those years are primary focus in my collecting efforts. This series of original 35 mm slides capture Clementes 3000th hit. They were shot from the third baseline and provide a perspective of that moment previously unseen. They also show the Mets outfielders throwing that ball in, Clemente on second, third, and scoring his last run and subsequently being greeted by his teammates in the dugout after that historic moment. For anyone interested here is the thread I posted six years ago about this addition to my collection.

Default Not even a player...

I have several photos of the scoreboard of the old Sportsman's Park in St. Louis. Home of the St. Louis Browns (now Baltimore Orioles) from 1902-1953 and the St. Louis Cardinals from 1920-1966.

Why the picture of the scoreboard? If you look in the lower left corner of the scoreboard you can barely make out the words "Kirn Signs". George Kirn was my grandfather. The sign company was started by his father. Unfortunately, I never got to meet either of them as they both died when my mom was very young.

Never got to meet them but I get to admire their work!

Default The Babe

Interesting thread with some really cool and unique items, right up my alley. Babe is one of my main interests and odd ball pieces like these two are perfect for my collection. First a period 12 inch ruler from St Marys Industrial School maybe used by the Sultan himself while he attended St Marys as a youngster. Second a cool 8 inch tall silver pitcher from Fro Joy ice cream, one of the many products Babe endorsed over his career.

Awesome pieces. I’ve got one of Red’s duck hunting licenses. It’s always been one of my favorite pieces.

Love the ruler.
The thought of babe doing some measuring or using it to draw straight lines is a cool thought.

Just saw this post for the first time, so I went into storage and dug up some of the more unusual Mays pieces in my collection. Enjoy!

P.S. if anyone knows the precise details on these pins, I would love to learn more.

Found a few more! Amazing what a little digging will turn up.

The last group is from the “1965 Come Alive Sports Thrill Set”, which I haven’t ever been able to learn very much about, except that it comes as part of a larger set with some sweet glasses to watch the athletes come alive.

More Pete Runnels. The 2 items below that are sideways are oriented correctly when I open them on my PC, and I have no idea why they turn sideways when I insert them.

Default A couple more contributions

Great items Nicolo and everyone else!

I see I posted some items in response to the original post. Found a couple more worth sharing.

The story on the Horne's is kind of cool too. I saw a different player first - didn't know Clemente existed. I thought to myself if another player did this, Clemente "had to"! Also, thought to myself these had to be advertised events!
I found an online newspaper archive and started searching the old Pittsburgh Press and Post Gazette for advertisements. Sure enough I found an ad for a 1 day appearance by Clemente in 1960! Took about 2 years after that till one popped up on Ebay!!

The other item is Clemente's learners permit from Puerto Rico

Howard you cease to amaze me! His learners permit ! Crazy!!
Do you have any of his childhood school report cards?
Maybe his birth certificate?
Great stuff

The Clemente picture on the learners permit is stapled in the wrong place. That box is for fingerprints if you can’t read. The picture belongs in the right box. It ask for a picture with “ no hat” .

On Sept 24, 1971 the Mets hosted the Bucs at Shea. That night Puerto Rican politicians, dignitaries, celebrities, and NY businessmen sponsored Roberto Clemente night. The Mets Spanish speaking radio station WADO 1280 hosted the event. This program given out to guests who were invited to attended a private dinner for Clemente held at the NY Commodore Hotel following the game. This is the first one I have actually seen.

The memorial pennant was produced in Venezuela and is the only one I’ve ever seen.

Here's a Recent addition. This is an original 11x14 Promo photo From a Local Milwaukee TV broadcast that aired on Saturday nights called Play Ball. Red is shown along with Hank, del and Bob. Earl Gillespie the braves radio host is pouring the milk. I believe this photo would've been hanging in the station.

Would love to see you all's new additions.

Just picked up the companion piece to the Alaga Syrup poster. This is the postcard, circa 1954. To my knowledge, only a few exist.

Shout out to Howard for helping me to pick this one up.
