Default Ruth Bat

I have a Hanna Batrite Ruth bat that is the same as this one https://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/...lot101844.aspx with the exception of the number 55 following Ruth’s name, mine is 56. Does anyone have any information regarding these numbers? Thanks Larry

Yours measures 36 inches? I believe Ruth was model five and the subsequent number denotes length. Haven't read up on it for a while but believe that's the case.

Nice Jeter. I agree that those are tough to get at an affordable price. When I had my 1998 Yankees gamers, I used a Shawn Jeter gamer as place spot for Jeter when I displayed them. Couldn't go wrong with the $10 price tag either.

Here's a few of my most recent GU bat pickups. A Hank Allen gamer, Bob Swift which is cool because he was the catcher when Eddie Gaedel pinch hit for the Browns, and a Fred McGriff bat.

Default Bresnahan model bat

Ron! you must have a tremendous collection. Thanks for posting those bats.

Here is a recent pick up: a Roger Bresnahan Spalding model. Of course, there doesn't seem to be anything that puts this particular bat in old Roger's hands. Does anyone happen to recognize the pattern of the scoring on the barrel?

Awesome bat! I have the same model, so I just checked mine for scoring on the barrel. Lots of nicks and scratches, but I do not see anything like that.
Didn't some guys mark their hits? And others scored the barrel for better contact? I think I have a Reach Frisch with some vertical lines carved in, but not quite like that.

Joey Votto MiLB bat. No mark on the knob. TPX on the reverse of the barrel. Anyone know how to research MiLB bats? He has used black bats for years.

I traded for the bat. It had been on ebay, but I got it thru a Facebook group.

My guess would be very wrong.

What is the length/weight? Do you know if he ever used that model?

Default Bobby Veach

Picked this up today. Looks like it dates to 1925, his last year in the majors, and is potentially a gamer. It's 34.5" long and weighs 36.5 oz. I haven't been able to find another example of one of his bats in my brief online search. Any opinions? Thoughts?

Nice looking bat. I don't know anything about comparable Veach bats, but I would think that any Tiger collector would love to have one. The label could be from '25, or maybe the late 20's, but that wouldn't rule out the possibility that Veach used it. He played in 560 games for Toledo between 1927 and 1929.

Labeling is 1925-28 based on the center label. If there aren't any inch marks, that's a pro bat for sure. Very nice!

Default Joe Hall White Sox and Tigers

I had a chance to meet Joe Hall today at a local card show. I’ve had this bat for over 20 years and finally had a chance to get it signed. I learned something today about the Louisville Slugger company. Joe is originally from Paducah, KY. He told me that Louisville Slugger , whether you were under contract with them or not, gave all of the players born in the state of Kentucky the script signature on their bats. I never knew that. I really like the look of these “stat” bats and some of the more non descript players really enjoy adding this info. Joe couldn’t have been nicer!

Picked it up a couple of years ago and decided to get it graded. Definitely was excited about the grade.

It's a terrific bat. Assuming that it is a block letter bat, with that knob, it looks like it was made for Schulte's personal use. I looked up the bat on the PSA/DNA certification page, and I am very glad to see that they are now showing some important details about each bat listed, including the length and weight. In general, the "Use Attributes" rating on their pages seems pretty murky to me, but not with this bat.

This bat intrigued me.
Side-written "W B(or maybe E?) Powell 6 ?? 29

I am sort of wondering if this was the great pitcher Pee Wee Powell?
The time frame for the bat is correct, so that is what makes me wonder.

Any opinions would be welcome.

A member asked for some more pics of the Mays bat. I had these pics previously saved. It seems Louisville Sluggers bring better money but I've always liked his Adirondacks...especially the white letter ones.

That's a great looking Mays bat Rob -- couldn't agree more on the white letter Adirondacks!

Default Brian Johnson Gamer

Had the pleasure to meet Brian today at a LCS and had him sign a bat for me. Another former Tiger for the collection. Brian was a 2 sport star at Stanford. In addition to playing baseball ( 2 x CWS Champ) he started a handful of games for the Cardinal football team.

We Giants fans love Brian Johnson! Mention "the Brian Johnson game" to any long time Giants fan and they will know you're talking about 9/18/97....10 games to go in the season, playing the hated Dodgers and trailing them in the standings by a game...Giants take a 5-1 lead but the Dodgers tie it and it goes into extras...Rod Beck gives up three straight singles in the 10th but strikes out Todd Zeile and gets Eddie Murray to ground into a DP with the bases loaded....Brian Johnson leads off the bottom of the 12th and wins the game with a HR through a howling Candlestick wind! Brian kept the Giants in first place with another 9th inning HR @ Colorado, a few days later. Giants won the 1997 NL West after a terrible 1996 season.

I will only collect Giants player bats if they are from their time with the Giants. These Glomars are interesting....Glomar was one of the first small bat companies to be approved by MLB when nearly everyone was using either a LS or Rawlings. Glomar's founder named the company for his two kids...Gloria and Mario. BTW, Brian Johnson has a great signature, unlike the Mike Trouts of today. I had a silver paint pen ready for the Media Guide, but it failed and we had to go with the sharpie. Brian was very patient while I tried, unsuccessfully, to get the paint pen going.

Recently named Mets skipper Buck Showalter (used while a member of the AA West Haven Yankees in the late 1970's):

You ought to like this one, then.

Giants closer Rod Beck. Rod got 18 AB's in his 7 years with the Giants and rapped out 4 hits (with one RBI) for a .235 average. In his 7 years with other teams, he only got 2 more AB's . Altho he didn't hit often or for average, Rod loved to take BP! I think he may have learned his taping technique from Bonds.

Default Justin Verlander 2007 game used bat

Here is a great Justin Verlander game used pitcher bat from circa 2007.
Manufacturing date was 11 days before his first no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The signature was in person in 2007 or 2008 at a signing in DET with my kids.
