Default BN Ruth

Awesome card, but I hate that PSA holder. Would be nice to see it in a SGC slab.

The ending price should also be interesting to see.

I would, but I think we'll need about 100 partners.

That would be good news for the partnership then, Matt. Saves us the trouble of cutting up the card into equal shares.

I read in the article that there is a back variation for this card. Does anyone know the difference between the variation and the standard card?

Here are the two different backs. I do not think that there is a premium on one or the other, but the back that says "Read The Balitimore News" seem to be less plentiful.

Actually, this was first reported a couple of weeks ago and the reason is explained here. Unfortunate situation.

$325K for a "1" - the BN Ruth is basically the same price to the T206 Wagner in a similar grade.

Also, Rob Lifson said it best - once this card sells, it will probably be a very long time before another example is offered for sale. All other examples are buried in advanced collections.

So with two back variations and two color variations, I guess a Ruth collector would need four of these cards.

Four of the known examples are owned by two collectors, who each have a blue and a red. So that means only six other collectors own one.

A beautiful card. I need to concentrate harder on my lottery numbers.

I wonder how many bidders there will be for this card. I was going to say 'serious' bidders, but at an opening bid of $ 100,000, I'm going to assume all bidders will be serious. I sure would be.

Default Still Kicking Myself

Barry, I'm still kicking myself for not buying the one that you were offering years ago for $19,500. Just couldn't pull the trigger at that price. What a huge mistake. Do you know where that card is now?

I've thought alot about that card too Andy. Do you know that it never sold off my price list and I had to return it to my consignor? Some time later he sold it to a collector who was one of my best customers, who for whatever reason didn't buy it off the list. It was in Poor condition, but it was the real thing. Who knew?

Nelson- I don't remember exactly when, but probably around 1995-97. That's my best guess.

I'm sure that it was either 2000 or 2001. I was living in CT at the time I received the sales list, and those were the only years that I lived there. I may still have it somewhere.

I couldn't find it either. That surprises me, because 2000 was a time I was doing auctions and it could have made a great auction lot. Maybe I discussed it with the consignor and he chose to go the direct sale route. Wish I could remember.

Come to think of it I wasn't doing any auctions that year, not until late 2001. That would explain it.
