I went at 11 AM today. Parking lot is packed. They are also having some kind of comic show (retrocon) as well, so they have two different lines to get in. Lots of people are dressed up as characters, so you know which line not to go into. Decent amount of vintage tables. The normal mix of auction houses (REA, H&S, Collectors, Memory Lane). CSG was present.

The few dealers I spoke to liked the venue as it has some more room vs the casino.

Last night as well. Based on last show (March), today should be the busiest. It took me 2+ hours last night just to browse the tables. Seemingly endless supply of vintage, graded and raw. LOTS of pre war too. Bill Brodhead had his usual drool-worthy stacks of Hindus, Carolina Brights, EPDG, Tolstoi, Lenox backs. It looks like he has 3-5 full sets (520)….his table is worth the price of admission on its own.

Great show, with something for everyone.

I always love going to the show. I must say however, I smelled so much burnt marijuana on people that it was making me sick. It’s a shame but that’s where we’re at in this country in 2022.

I smelled that a bunch of times too! I thought it was just me. I have no desire to smoke it myself, but weirdly enough…I quite enjoy the smell of it.

I had to vomit but decided against it in the bathroom. The bathrooms were disgusting as well. Luckily I got outside and got some fresh air, didn’t go back in.

It’s not pre-war, but I picked this up at the show last night.

Heavy weed smell would at least explain some of the prices being asked.

There’s always that, I guess. I was pleasantly surprised with the prices. I saw about 5-10 REALLY nice vintage HOF cards, where I would do a quick check on recent sales. And they were either right on, or maybe 10% high, and that’s well within negotiating range to peak my interest.

Legalize it, have a nice outdoor smoking area, and you won't have to smell it. Nobody wants to smoke weed in a bathroom, and the laws make people smoke in their cars. Having said that, I never would have thought collectors would be a big pot-smoking bunch under any circumstances, but I guess there is crossover among the younger generation. Not to make this too political, but would you rather have them going to jail and ruining their lives over it?

Far less objectionable than cigarette smoke IMO

Nightmarish parking.

Disgusting bathrooms.

Very nice selection of vintage and pre-war.

Some great dealers (Collector Connection and Baggar’s stood out) and some real knuckleheads.

Diverse crowd, regarding age, gender, and marijuana usage.

Great big space with plenty of tables.

No cow-bell ringing or morons screaming into a microphone.

All in all, it was a card show…not a corporate “event.” I’ll be going back.

This card cought my eye..I don't think I have ever seen this one before..M113 Boston 1915 team. Also saw a 1921 Tip Top for sale...dont see many of them. Overall great show..next store was "Retrocon" with cosplay old toys star wars etc. I walked it quickly and enjoyed it as well...probably where the strange smell was coming from last night..

I picked up this nicely centered T206 Johnson Portrait in a trade with Bill Brodhead. And yes he has a great inventory of cards.

I like casinos. A two hour drive to see a card show and play some cards. Sure. A two hour drive to see just a show. 4 hrs RT in car. No thanks.

I thought this was the case with every card show within the same year or two? At least for pre war... The same schlubbs lugging around their scratched up top loaders and cases, throwing them out sloppily on a table and hoping the crowd is different from the last show.

The new location is only about 10 minutes away from the old location with the casino, and depending on where you are coming from, you might have to go right past the casino to get to the new location. I know I did, so stopping at the casino would not have been too hard if I had the time on Friday night.

There was more than one event this weekend

There's a ComicCon and a SneakerCon in the same building, but there's plenty of parking.

Want to bet some of the smoke came from at least one of those events?

That’s odd, because when I did Google maps from my phone it seemed like a hour difference. Guess I messed that up.

I hear you. However, I'm less than half an hour away from this show. For me, it's a quick drive each way.

I was there all day Saturday. The facility/room is far superior to the Casino- so much more space and it looked like more dealers/table. The food situation was pretty solid too. The bathrooms, however, sucked- 3 stalls for a room full of men/boys.

Tons of vintage and tons of modern. All the sports were well represented. I thought it was very evenly mixed. It appeared the modern dealers were busier than the vintage dealers, but that makes sense as the larger majority of attendees appeared to be below 35 years old. A lot of kids and a decent amount of women, on both sides of the tables.

There were at least 10 pre war dealers with some really really good stuff.

I was there with my son and nephews. These kids only like the shinny stuff. It was so great to watch them wheel, deal, and negotiate. I think these experiences will be invaluable to them when they are older. A card show is a pure bastion of capitalism. It is pretty amazing how much money changes hands, most of it with that under 35 crowd. I spoke to many in this group, very few of them knew players or card issues older than 20-30 years. Everyone expressed deep respect for, and interest in, the old stuff and many said they want to own a Cobb or Ruth someday, but then they turn immediately to that optic, cracked ice /99 RPA variation!

After the show there was “trade night”. That was amazing, and my kids had a blast- it’s a chance to do deals on par with other collectors. All in all, great experience.

I did not smell much pot, although maybe I am just numb to it at this point- the entire city of DC, including 495 on a nice day, smells like pot
