I prefer Diamond Stars and 1933 Goudey as far as most visually appealing sets. I also LOVE the backgrounds of the N162's. |

1. 19th Century — 1888 scraps — When I was kid in the 70s, I found a Sam Thompson and a Deacon White in an antique store. Now they're one of those things I wished I never traded away. Amazing, colorful images. |

As requested, I've attached scans of some of my favorite pre-war nonsports sets. Dare Devils are somewhat tough to find. Made by National Chicle, you can probably see some similarities in color and design with the Diamond Stars set. Tootsie Circus cards are scarce, but I love the colors and subjects. The R21 Believe it or Not set by Wolverine Gum (whose only other set was the equally strange and rare Strange True Stories set) have odd designs and stories. The low numbers 1-24 pop up on eBay. The high #s 25-48 are some of the rarest cards of the 30's, sports or nonsports. |

I don't think the Crofts Cocoas look any better than the E101, E102s, or Dockmans. But they would look better in my collection |

regarding the fronts (all the E92's and E101's look the same). However, I was once one of those type card and "back" collectors. So, I have to go by the back as well (and those Croft's Cocoa backs are COOOOOOOOOOOOOL - wouldn't trade one for all the VAM's in the world!). |

Can someone verify for me that those nonsports scans I put up yesterday are visible? I'm here at work and can see them fine, but at home yesterday I couldn't view them...I tried two different computers and two browsers (IE and Firefox) and just saw a red "X". I know this isn't that big a deal, but it's the first time I have tried to upload an image and would like to know for future reference. Just in case there is a problem, I've put the pictures on a web page. Here's the link: |
