Default What do you guys think about this card?

I took a chance a few days ago on a Hank Aaron 1954 Topps Rookie card on ebay. It looks immaculate and the seller swears it wasn't trimmed. What do you guys think from the pics. Cost me almost $1300 bucks. Worth the risk? Curious to see if you guys think it was cut or not.

You will have better luck if you post in the post-war forum below. This part of the forum is only intended for people to buy, sell or trade cards, which it does not appear is your intention. Personally, I think it was a pretty bad gamble as the likelihood of it being both real and unaltered are incredibly small. The abuse of the English language clearly displayed on the holder is just one of many red flags.

It's a bit off if you ask me . Look at his name (Hank Aaron ) it should be white . For 1300 and patience you could get a nice looking Aaron .

Honestly I don't know why anyone purchasing higher dollar cards buys them raw. It's too big a risk and if it looks too good to be true it almost always is. Why would anyone specializing in selling cards ever sell something especially a card in high demand below prices easily obtained elsewhere. Why would a seller selling almost all graded cards (which I assume is the case here) offer a 54 Aaron in raw form, there's only one reason and THAT'S BECAUSE IT'S GOT SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. I can see if your budget was limited how raw cards would make sense but personally I am never going to spend over $1,000.00 on something that could be anything other than genuine.

It looks like a reprint to me! I would get my money back if you can! Marc

Looks like a reprint almost 100% sure. I have owned a handful of these graded.

Isn't it also remarkable that the back of the card looks aged and yet the borders on the front look snow white....must have been stored flipped over for over sixty years!

If you know cards, have a ruler and loupe in hand and are able to inspect the card in person - I am all for raw cards. Out of sight - too good to be true condition relative to price - problem waiting to happen! I suspect reprint as well.

As stated in another thread, it is 100% reprint. The text is in blue not black.

I went on ebay and saw that this card really did sell for almost $1300. The seller stated that it was unknown if this was an original or reprint and does not accept returns. I might contact ebay and paypal as the blue text on the reverse should indicate to any seller that deals in baseball cards that this is a reprint and that he knowingly failed to list it as such. Also, I'd avoid buying high dollar cards that are not graded from someone that hasn;t sold anything over $50 in the past year.
