Is that paper loss on the front bottom center of the Wagner...or is it a newly discovered "Wagnep" variation? (how do you insert smilies?)

...be an SGC 20 on a good day, though the "Wagnep" paper loss on front probably suggests otherwise. I think it might do a little better in an SGC 10 or 20 holder than Beckett 1, but at this level, I think people are bidding to own a nice presentation copy of a low-grade Wagner, regardless of technical numerical grade. If it was a PSA 2, then maybe the registry people would come in to play. But it's not and PSA would not cross this card into a 2.

WOW !!! This is absolutely amazing that there are high bids BEFORE the catalog comes out. Now, just wait until the non-internet guys start bidding. This auction is going to break records !!!

Here's a question:

REA opens for bidding on April 3 and closes on May 3.

Mastro opens on April 14 and closes two weeks later.

As such, REA is open for a month, including 11 days prior to Mastro starting and a few days after Mastro closes.

Does this schedule impact what people are willing to bid in each auction, or does it all end up the same in the wash?

(Plus, when can we see a full Mastro preview?)

"Whether it is a 1, 1.5 or even a 2, a card like this will sell based on its visual presentation, which is quite strong."

I agree with T206collector. For a card like this, I really think the market will value it based on what the card shows, not what the holder says.

I don't think Mastro will end any auctions early.

Re: REA

I have placed nine (9) bids on nine (9) different lots and have been outbid on all of them. This is going to be a monster auction with monster prices.

P.S. And if the bidder on the Jacklitsch e107 is reading this please give me a break.

It is called backdoor for a reason. That's as good as you're gonna get, until the auction preview officially opens.

Steve I'm also 0 for 9, but mine were just qualifying bids. Considering the bidding, however, I wouldn't be shocked to end 0 for 9 as well.

Here's the Mastro listing for the SkyDash's Tin Top Jackson.

http://www.mastroauctions.com/index.cfm?action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Lot%20Information&LotIndex=80266

To see the rest of the auction, just change the numbers in the URL. Adding on number (i.e., 80267) is the Tin Top Wagner.

Is there some reason I shouldn't be sharing this info? I wasn't aware it was top secret or something.

Some interesting stuff in Mastro includes a SGC 50 Tip Top Wagner, a Fatima Premium Cleveland team and complete set of GCMs including the Andrews.

I've always had trouble convincing my wife to let me bid a significant (for me - about $3K) amount in an REA auction. I am usually chasing one or two cards in a lot and I always try to convince her that if I win, I can sell the rest and maybe get the card I wanted for really cheap - standard sort of argument to any wife. Never seems to get much results...

This time I tried a different slant. She has wanted a breast enhancement for some time now - about $3K. I told her if I win the auction, I can resell the extras - I get my one or two cards, and she gets bigger boobs. She bought off on that argument in record time!

So, bottom line is - if I win, I am basically getting two prizes! How is that for the ultimate win-win scenario!

Take Care,
Geno

Make sure you post them on the next Pick-up thread. Or should I say Perk-up thread.

Geno,

Don't bid on the cards in REA, try to win the cards posted in the Mastro thread. Then don't forget to post and show us your "Big Eaters"......cards, that is (insert smiley).

Mike
